Are we surprised by this story about Dr Oz?

No, we are not.

Even without Fetterman’s highly effective campaign, this kind of quackery is why I don’t want Oz in the senate. He’s a dishonest fraud. So is Dr Phil. In fact, any of the stable of goofballs squirted out of the gullible brain of Oprah ought to be rejected if ever they appear on any political slate.

Is there any person connected with health and medicine approved by Oprah that survives a critical review?
It is a real question, I am a foreigner, we do not have her show here.

@2: Not that I’m aware of. Oprah only ever cared about how much she was being paid to endorse crap, not if there was actually anything legit about it.

A friend of a former colleague worked for his show and would absolutely confirm this kind of intellectual dishonesty.

The good part is, if the repubs recruit from media grifters, any reasonably experienced Democrat should have it easy during debates.
    .
I think it was Tucker Carlson who endorsed one of those miracle cures against Covid 40 times- not just endorsed, but claimed it was proven to be effective- and later flat out denied he had endorsed it.

That kind of shit is harder to do in än elected assembly where everything is on record. Let the GOP bring snake oil salesmen by the truckload, we just get a target-rich environment.

ya this is true! I have worked in PR and often in a quest to find hook for stories, we would end up exaggerating a news which would actually not be newsworthy. For example here is an article i found recently – https://datingtipslife.com/hero-instinct-in-men/, which actually speaks about a concept but is exaggerated.

As most of your readers know, Dr. Phil is an unlicensed psychologist with a PhD, not an MD. But his constant advice on medical issues, drugs and treatments instills in his ignorant viewers the belief that he’s a credible medical doctor. Hey, I have a PhD in engineering, but I don’t give out advice on medical issues. Is that why I’m not rich like Dr. Phil?

    You are selling yourself short.
By advertising in the relevant media (Fox, televangelist TV channels etc.) you can start a career as homeopathic quantum spiritual health advisor. You might even become a personal advisor to the next Republican president.

I am not sure why you think so. That would require the debate audience to be able to distinguish lies from truth.

Do you think that, during a debate, the opposition is going to be able to show videos, and have a catalog of such videos readily available?

@9 Indeed. It’s remarkable the sort of fantasy thinking that so many people engage in. It’s behind many of the complaints (often from people who didn’t vote for Hillary and seem to have no clue where the SCOTUS majority came from) that Democrats “lack a spine” and “need to something!”, as if the immense power of corporations, sociopathic billionaire donors, and the right wing media outlets and think tanks didn’t exist and will just fold up if Joe Biden (whose administration is the most competent in decades) “gets tough” and pulls Joe Manchin’s lever for him, or something.

Thinking fantasy thinking, well parallel universe thinking anyone else recall when Oprah Winfrey was (semi?) seriously being considered for POTUS as a Democratic party candidate? Just imagine – we could have had her vs Trump for POTUS and she’d have sadly been the better choice.. President Oprah?! Wonder what we missed there? Wodner if Drs Phil & Oz could both have been in her cabinet?

No, but then, I live in this universe, where it was not a thing.

Michael Roizen? He used to be associated with Oz but I don’t know if he’s a quack simply because of that association.
