Congratulations to Chuck Kimmel

My graduate advisor got some good news last week: Charles B. Kimmel has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences.

It’s nice how he is listed as “professor emeritus of biology (active)”. He no longer runs his own lab, but has instead taken a post-doctoral position working on development of the facial bones in sticklebacks.

Very serious academics

Did you do the fishslapdance after the photo was taken? (-the English, I presume, not the Scottish one)

I thought that was you under the fish’s belly, holding a gun?

Now whenever politicians visit the national academy of sciences, they will ask him “are you related to Jimmy Kimmel?”
(Democratic ones, I don’t think Republican politicians watch late night shows as long as Fox News is around).

@ my point was, the actual science part is probably not at the front of the minds of public figures. More likely, they will ask “are you sure the centrifugal force is not a force?”. And those are the intellectually curious ones.
(Zod help them if a MAGA guy get started about vaccines)
