I spent 5 minutes scrutinizing this poster…

…and there aren’t any spiders in it!

I feel slighted. It’s a nice poster otherwise, except for that massive omission.

Poor Chelicerates barely get a look in with all those Vertebrates, all I see are a horseshoe crab and a scorpion. The bacteriophage is an interesting addition, surely non-living? Speaking of non-living I also see a Great Auk (maybe it’s a Razorbill?), a Moa and what looks to be a tripodal dinosaur.

Such a poster truly makes one appreciate how diligent Noah was in finding both a male and a female of each type of these animals and plants, especially as a number of them are not found anywhere near the middle east.

Wots that yellow thing to the left of the Scorpion,in the same row as Variation?
Can’t see any cats either, for shame.

I see something black and spider-esque near the lower-right corner…maybe it’s just an ant. There’s another one like it a little below the upper-left corner.

And yeah, no cats, big or small. No dogs or hedgehogs either…

The mildly deranged penguin points out there are several penguins, but not everything picture is a penguin, even in disguise. She does approve the lack of peas, and apparent lack of horses. And, of course, according to her, it needs more cheese (or at least cheese plants), and MUSHROOMS! A chart of penguins without cheese and MUSHROOMS is like a wine glass without vin, sadly lacking (glancing at the empty wine glass nearby).

Doesn’t even reveal an inordinate fondness for beetles…

But really, for a Naturalist’s Society, this is pretty sloppy. They had a certain number of images and just kept repeating them in different sizes to fill up space (eg the beetle, the dragonfly, the frog, the fly etc etc). Very few plants. So really all it is is an impression of a number of species, when it could have been a genuine illustration of the variety of life.

I count TWO scorpions, so maybe one of them killed and ate the spider before everyone got together for the group photo.

Where are the conodonts? And the wossname squids with long elongated shells.
The rudists that built reefs before corals existed are also being discriminated against.

Ortoceratites! Dang, I never remember it when I need to.
And we should have at least one Pallas Cat, they are the grumpiest felines in the world and have earned a place on the poster.
