Not my neighbors, I don’t think

But I wouldn’t put it past some of the other locals. It seems some of our far-right Trumpkin Americans are blustering on Tik-Tok about rising up and murdering the libs, bragging about putting up black flags as a sign of no quarter given (I think they’re usually accustomed to flying white flags). Their reasoning, though, is bizarre.

So, we’re the enemy, and they’re openly professing to want to execute us… So, why are they doing this?

Covid vaccinations, mostly. They believe that Joe Biden has declared a civil war on them by mandating that employers with over 100 employees and the military have vaccinations.

Yes, they say civil war, and they say it’s already started. But, unfortunately, many of them also live in states where masks and vaccines are required by state governments, healthcare, and law enforcement.

An alarming number of military members have been making Tik Toks talking about how they are being discharged because they refuse the vaccine. It’s alarming because there is probably an equal number of guys on there talking about the civil war plans and actively using Tik Tok to recruit these military and ex-military members.

The biggest message they have been sending out is, “it’s time” or “the time is now.”

They primarily use Tik Tok as a recruiting tool and let others know their willingness to commit violence. Then they tell people to message them or where to find them on Telegram.

I’m not scared. I think this is a small fringe of fanatical assholes, and if they were to rise up they’d cause some people grief and pain before they’d be put down. They rely on hiding in the shadows to have any courage.

What bugs me most is how goddamned stupid their ideas are.

The black flags made me think of “American ISIS”. Many of them are probably religious zealots and believe they have the god-given right to execute people they disagree with. Either that, or roach poison.

“they’re a small fringe of powerless assholes” sailed on Jan 6 tbh. Don’t see how you can justify any complacency about what a what-shouldn’t-be-surprisingly-any-more large number of people on the Right want and will do. I’m just wondering if the people we put in power will protect us or if we’ll be on our own to drag as many terrorists to hell with us as we can when they come for us. (I’m not actually wondering at all, the answer is obvious).

They already tried that and not so long ago.

The January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capital. And how well did that work out for them? They’ve all been rounded up and are being tried in court. They aren’t all that heroic when they are arrested by the police and FBI.

What bugs me most is how goddamned stupid their ideas are.

They are also going to end up broke and unemployed. A lot of places and occupations require vaccination as a matter of public safety.

A few health care professionals have already quit their jobs instead of being vaccinated. They’ve since found that no one in the health care field will hire them unless…they are vaccinated. They are now thinking about getting fake vaccine cards. Which has its own problems. If anyone checks, it is a serious crime to use a fake card.

Chances are good that at least some of them will act out their hate and fantasies.
Right wingnut and fundie xian terrorism has been a problem in the USA for decades already. There is nothing new here.

There have already been several attacks on vaccine centers, including a pharmacist providing vaccines being shot and killed in Georgia. A lot of health care workers have been threatened or attacked by right wingnut trolls. A common target for right wingnuts are the police since they are in the way.

Wherever you have hate speech you will have hate violence. There is always someone who doesn’t realize it is all playing let’s pretend. And the leaders really don’t want to get violent, get arrested, and sent to prison. They want their clueless ignorant and undeducated followers to go to prison instead.

I find it especially hard to take the people who are saying this while still in the military seriously. I’ve seen the list of vaccinations you’re required to get in boot camp, on top of the vaccines you have to receive based on where you’re being deployed. That you’re being required to get a vaccine now should not be a surprise to these idiots. It should be routine for them.

    Well…
I’d say the trend in politics in this country over the past few decades (including all its ups and downs) has been decline. You really can’t keep brushing off this sort of thing as a minor glitch, just another red flag, ho hum.

  8. stroppy says

There’s certainly nothing new in the Trumpian, white supremicist sentiments that the black flag represents, which apparently goes to the next level and fills in all the white spaces on the black and white version of the American flag.

They actively want a civil war, they’re agitating for it and simultaneously want to intimidate–boosted by you-know-who back on the campaign trail.

Sounding like any examples you know from history?

What bothers me is how feckless and impotent the Dems are at every level. Why isn’t someone who makes a death threat immediately arrested? Doing so is illegal in many states (including, btw, Minn).

Here in MI, multiple public officials (health depts, voting, etc.) are under constant threat, the GOP are gerrymandering majority-black districts, etc. In the absence of leadership from above, the local officials are left helpless and personally at risk.

And yeah: I think the incompetence is intentional. The top Dems are all millionaires and became millionaires by selling out. Being wealthy, they assume fascism and climate change are things that affect other people, not them.

Carrying out a genocide on the indigenous population and kidnapping millions from another continent to treat as chattel slaves might be a start (and hardly exhausts our transgressions). I don’t believe in karma, but if I did I would say we’re still doing a lot better than we deserve.

Washington State University (WSU) sacked Nick Rolovich, its highest-paid employee, and four of his assistants, for failing to meet a vaccine mandate.

Mr Rolovich, 42, who earned $3.1m (£2.25m) a year, had applied for a religious exemption from the mandate.

Along with what has been mentioned, many Democrats, not all, along with most of the rest of the country, have been asleep at the switch.

They’re now in a weakened position where they can be subjected to political extortion from the right. It’s like trying to appease the vikings back in the day. In the long run, it just doesn’t work.

What to do? What to do?

    …………..

It’s in the DNA, so to speak?

They are fantasizing. They remind me of boys in a treehouse saying, “Wouldn’t it be cool, if…” Oh, there will some who act out, of course. Of all those people who believe that a holocaust is occurring at Planned Parenthood, just few have actually killed doctors .

A couple of years ago, I bought (from a local rad collective) a t-shirt featuring a black-&-white, upside-down US flag, with the slogan “Stay woke”.

I (and sfaict everybody who’s seen me wear it) interpreted this as an anarchist – or anarchist-adjacent – expression. So where did these fascists get the idea they could claim it? (And why hasn’t Big A sued them all the way to the WTO?)

  16. mssusan2112 says

@21 probably because they’re, you know, anarchists. And, suing them would be an admission that they’re just selling a revolution fantasy to a bunch of upper middle class high school students who’ll all grow up to be bankers.

so… you’re ok with that then?
and who, exactly are going to “put them down”?
and what do you mean by “put them down”?

this has happened before. millions died.
The right will create their own self fulfilling prophecy. will you let it roll over you before, or after you decide to respond? who are YOU willing to sacrifice to the mob while you wait for that mob to be “put down”?
This is no longer the US you remember. Sitting back and waiting is how you got Trump. There are tens of MILLIONS of people like these “black flaggers”. you clearly see you cannot reason with them, because they literally are insane. The current government is rightly TERRIFIED of them.
But you all will pretend this is meaningless poots by a small group of numpties. That attitude will end up with a lot of deaths in the end. Prepare yourselves now. meet your neighbors, talk about how to protect yourselves. You are already targets. This isn’t fear mongering… this is fact.

It demonstrates the right wings continued lack of examining the reality of history. From a historic naval POV, black flag denoted clemency if you surrendered, that’s why pirate flags were usually black based (surrender and we’ll just take your money) but if it ended in a fight, the black flag was struck and replaced by a red flag to denote that they were now after blood (fight to the death). Tempted to ask if they are also going full pastifarian since going pirate is a tenet of the Flying Spaghetti Monster…
