Catholicism is sick

Really sick. I’m surprised it’s not terminal already. Behold, the Church Militant, and its spokesperson, Michael Voris, all sucking up to … Milo Yiannopoulos? Are you kidding me?

I’m simultaneously revolted and impressed by the fact that Milo has found another niche full of gullible fools. I’m sure he’s having a grand time with his new act.

Meanwhile, as Milo is fêted by Catholic fanatics, hundreds of more graves have been found at the Catholic Marieval Indian Residential school in Saskatchewan. But hey, let’s praise the repentant homosexual!

Also, some of these schools in Canada were run by the Anglicans (the church I was raised in), and I am pretty sure they were no better than the others. I seem to recall an apology from that church, but I bet a search around the Christie school near Tofino would turn up more than a few…

So now Milo is trolling the entire Catholic church? I gotta admit that’s pretty impressive. He’s still a total turd sandwich with pickles, but I am intrigued at this point as to what the hell he’s trying to accomplish.

Actually the Christie school on Meares Island was run by the Roman Catholics, so my natal church escapes blame. 25 students are recorded as dying at that school, but I am pretty sure a little GPR Archaeology would turn up more.

I’m not sure how many provinces have them, several do, but we have a separate Catholic school system in Alberta that is funded through tax money. This needs to stop immediately. Not only that, despite our health system being public, the church also owns a lot of hospitals in Canada and they need to be kicked out of that enterprise too.

Voris has his own “ex-gay” background to deal with, so I’m sure he’s happy to have an ally in Milo. Perhaps they’re going out on double dates with the buxom females they’re now attracted to. Miracles happen, right??

As far as defunding the separate Catholic schools in Canada goes, it would require a Constitutional Amendment to get that done. I suspect it would become easier after the discovery of the graves of the lost children. I would definitely vote for that one. In the meantime, Canada Day is a day of nation mourning for the children who perished in the “care” of the nuns, monks and priests of the various churches involved. The Roman Catholic Church is the only one that has never apologized.

    Money.
    He needs money.
And has no marketable skills other than trolling whoever he can.
    He is a conperson.

I must have hit it lucky in my childhood and never even knew it until now.
It is a bad sign when your public elementary and secondary schools have their own graveyards, right next to the playground.
AFAIK, none of ours had their own cemeteries.

There will be many more graves of kids found. This is from six years ago:

Justice Murray Sinclair, who heads the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, says the federal government stopped recording the deaths around 1920, after the chief medical officer at Indian Affairs suggested children were dying at an alarming rate.

“He was fired,” Sinclair says. “The government stopped recording deaths of children in residential schools, we think, probably because the rates were so high.”

Sinclair has guessed up to 6,000 children may have died at the schools but it’s impossible to say with certainty.

  10. specialffrog says

@Rob Grigjanis: Some estimates put the mortality rate in residential schools at 1 in 25.

OT – the divine being worshipped by those who created those schools saw fit to let a 14- storey house collapse today. More than fifty people are missing, presumed crushed under the debris.
If I believed this god was real, its nature would be something like Nyarlahotep.

I’ve been watching how the Canadian “residential school” crisis is being reported here (USA)

I keep seeing the figure 150,000 given for the Canadian deaths, and I see where the US government is doing an accounting, but nobody has given ball-park figures for how many died in the USA. Just based on the relative population counts, I would expect the USA number to be a lot higher. Also, I don’t think it was just the Catholic church running them in the US. I don’t know all the churches and other religious groups that ran them in the USA, but someone who was researching the history of Unitarian/Universalism reported that Unitarian groups ran some schools. Not something they’re proud of today, AFAIK.

    Allison @16:

150,000 isn’t the number of deaths. It’s the estimated number of kids who went through the residential school system from the late 19th to late 20th century. The number of deaths is certainly in the thousands.

So, uhm… I realize that this is quite possibly the Least Bad Thing about that video, but why is that guy cozplaying as Dread Pirate Roberts?

Isn’t Milo on record as being pro-pedophilia? Presumably they have that to bond over.
