The arrest stories from the insurrection keep rolling out.
Another person arrested Sunday, Bryan Betancur, was captured on video holding a Confederate battle flag in a restricted section on the west side of the Capitol, the FBI said in court documents.
Betancur, who was on probation for a burglary conviction, was wearing an ankle bracelet, and GPS data showed he was in the area for three hours on Jan. 6, according to the documents.
I wonder if he’s one of those people that think Bill Gates is going to inject everyone with tracking chips?

The saddest thing is how few of these people have lawyers.
They can represent themselves…they all seem to think they understand the legal system’s nuances so well.

These are the people that the republicans are courting and afraid to piss off because they vote? Surely an indication that the republicans are doomed as a mainstream national party (hope). They will remain a powerful regional party though and maintain enough power to fuck things up for the rest of the country.

The other real issue (PaulBC having already pointed out the problem with the conservative lawmakers) is the number of off-duty cops who participated and the number of on-duty Capital police who assisted them. What’s going to be done about them?
I’m not sure that these convictions will be slam dunks. Lawmakers swear loyalty to the constitution, but citizens don’t — surely their lawyers will argue that a reasonable person would presume that, if they were acting on orders from the President of the United States, then those actions could not be illegal.
Of course, if that defense were to succeed, it wouldn’t do much to help the president’s case…

Apparently the House case managers (aka the prosecution) for the upcoming trial over the impeachment charge may have plans to use the statements that various of these loons have made in order to show that Trump did, indeed, incite the insurrection.
Yeah, Bill Gates is going to put a GPS tracker in your vaccine. Instead of just pinging your smart phone that never leaves 6′ from you.

@13, Tracking the smartphone only tracks the smartphone. Hence teh microchip in the vaccine. Which is in you. Short-range, but easily tracked by all nearby smartphones (so you can even follow those who don’t have a smartphone, and do so in most areas of the world). That tracking data is then uploaded from the (multiple) smartphones. Triangulating off those multiple smartphone GPS “sightings” gives a remarkably accurate co-ordinates for you.
The solution is not a tinfoil hat, but to wrap yourself in tinfoil so that you are inside your own personal Faraday Cage… and ready to pop into the oven for roasting. Of course, walking around wrapped in tinfoil makes it easy for teh spy satellites to follow you (oh, and also the CCTV), at least until everyone does it. For best results, and due to the virus (safety first!), make teh tinfoil Faraday turkey suit airtight. Also drink some bleach.
@13, @15 I think the point is not the plausibility or the effectiveness, but the invasiveness when “a foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual.” It may also be explain why visiting extraterrestrials all specialize in proctology. It’s about the psychology of the one being invaded, not the goals of the would-be invader.

The DC cops picked up another bright lad today. He was parked at a meter near the White House. He asked a cop on a bicycle if he could park there, and then mentioned he needed information about the Oval Office. The cop, noting the holster in the center console of his pick-up, asked if he had a gun. His reply was, “Yes” (so–at least–they wont get him on lying to a cop). Car search ensued. Unregistered gun, two 8-round loaded magazines, 79 rounds in an opened box. None of it registered in DC. He’s from Midland, TX, so at least we know which “village” is missing one of their idiots.

Have the DC police said anything about pressing charges? Someone said they weren’t going to. Is it even their place to make the call?

I was skeptical at the time, but now I wonder if they really do have some magic incantation that invokes hidden secrets in the constitution that I never knew about.
