We’re experiencing a blizzard right now — I know I was complaining about the lack of snow this year, but that doesn’t mean I wanted it all at once, and I could do without the savage winds — and now it has knocked out all the power to our house. No internet. No lights. No Netflix. No refrigeration (not worried about that one, we just put everything in a cardboard box and put it out on the deck). At least I’ve got some old fashioned books to tide me over, until darkness falls.

The low you’re experiencing is headed our (s. Ontario’s) way, we get potential drizzle/freezing drizzle first, then a truckload of snow on the 25th. Okay, it has its downsides, but maybe it will make a few more people in this province do what they bloody well should be doing anyway, and NOT have multi-generational family dinners.
I put gas in the snow thrower and made sure it would start as snow flurries were listed as possible. Lots of wind as a cold front is moving through the area.
Is a some variety of pea? — known dangerous monsters (albeit I don’t think they’ve ever featured as the monster de jour in Doctor Who?). Or snow? — however, there was an ankle-deep invasion here perhaps ten years ago so I sortof vaguely recall that monstrous pea. Weirdly, wasn’t green, snarling, or genocidal, and vanished after a morning or so… not too sure what the peas were up to!? Don’t recall a loss of power or cheese, however, the Internet connection at the lair at the time was notoriously flaky and probably did it’s usual running away screaming about teeth, claws, and electrons.

Less?) seriously, it’s just cold enough here to keep an adequate non-frozen cold chain going outside, which is useful at this time when the refrigerator is overflowing (partly due to the pandemic, partly due to the holidays, and partly due to successfully repelling the latest pea / horse attack).

I have a number of wind up devices like a torch and radio. I invested in them during the big Brisbane floods when we had prolonged blackouts. Also a few solar powered devices. Must see if there is a solar power phone recharger.

I got 4 feet of snow Wednesday last here in upstate NY. I didn’t get my driveway plowed until Saturday and that only because the local florist had a delivery for me and sent her plow jockey to clear my drive so the flowers could be delivered. Tomorrow it will be 50 and raining so all the snow will melt and cause flooding.
All of my emergency lights and back up batteries are fully charged. Not only can I read a book but I can charge my phone about a dozen times and trickle charge via a solar panel if I have to. I also stuff my freezer with bottles of water to keep the fridge cold incase of a major power outage. Without power a fridge is still a big insulated box. I anticipate power outages this time of year.

We got a report of your weather on local TV news in St. Louis this morning. The report was specifically about the twin cities, but I’m guessing that’s the same blizzard.
