The China National Space Administration has landed a probe on the Moon, and released video from the on-board camera.
The music sounds familiar, but for some reason I think the probe ought to be spinning more.

Hmm, that scene always annoyed me because the activity on the lander’s display screens doesn’t match what you can see out of the window.

There was something like that floated a bunch of years back. Don’t remember the company, but I seem to remember there being some amount of outcry about it.
Okay, this video creeped me out. It didn’t take me long to figure out what was bothering me, either: it was the complete absence of any sense of scale. Are those dots kilometer-wide craters seen during a fast descent? Are they meter-wide & the probe has almost touched? Are they centimeter-wide & the camera has simply zoomed in on the expected landing site to give a reasonable amount of warning to the operators (if any) capable of beaming an emergency change/abort order?
I had no idea what I was looking at, and that bothered me at a visceral level – almost to the point of nauseating me.
Classical music yes, but not the docking music.

The music’s from The Blue Danube Waltz, Johann Strauss II (10:59). That section starts around 6:30.
That music would be more appropriate for the rendezvous of the ascent module with the orbiter. Hope they’ll a) manage that and b) we’ll get to see some video.
The Chinese are playing a Strauss waltz on the moon? That’s an interesting choice. As hyper-nationalistic as the Chinese are these days I would have expected a more traditional Chinese musical piece, perhaps ‘Autumn Moon Over Han Palace.’

Actually, it’s a perfect choice, as it provides a very subtle, and subtly
humorous, multi-level dig at Western viewers of the video.
I would hope that it was less of a dig and more of an homage to A.C. Clarke’s vision.

My brain was seeing the craters as outies not innies.
I saw it like that, too, because it looked like the light was coming from the opposite direction.
Seeing the curved horizon helped set the scale early on. The rest is like watching a Mandelbrot set evolve, you lose track of the crater size.
Their fake moon, our fake moon, all same – same, made in Japan. ;)
Hopefully, their samples will have something novel among them. After all, many breakthroughs began with the words “Huh, now that’s odd…”.
Here’s an animation of the whole mission (4 ½ minutes) – quite elaborate. In fact similar to how the Apollo missions worked but without those pesky humans. You can leave the sound off for those who don’t like music.
Why didn’t they land slap bang next to one of the Apollo sites and take lots ,and lots of film and photos and stuff .
I think that would be the only thing to shut the moon landings are fake crowd.

The Apollo sites have been photographed from orbit anyway. If that doesn’t convince the cranks, I don’t know what would.
