The real terrorists

There’s a protest in New Mexico. Some of the protesters try to tear down a statue to a conquistador. The shooting starts. Who’s doing it? Why, the gentlemen in military costumes, carrying military firearms, who are then treated respectfully by the police.

The right-wing militia and the police are rather hard to tell apart in that picture. It’s also amazing how when it’s an armed mob of white people with obvious violent intent, they get treated so gently, and how the murder militia responds so calmly and meekly. They know they’re not going to be spontaneously throttled or battered or executed. They aren’t worried at all.

This is the future, as illustrated in this excellent comic.

I’m not afraid of black people, but man, these armed white terrorists are the big worry.

The guy they shot is in critical condition but recovering, by the way. The whole gang of marauders need to be tried for attempted murder.

The terrorist has been identified and arrested. His name is Stephen Ray Baca. He’s scum.

“The heavily armed individuals who flaunted themselves at the protest, calling themselves a ‘civil guard,’ were there for one reason: To menace protesters, to present an unsanctioned show of unregulated force,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) said in a statement. “To menace the people of New Mexico with weaponry — with an implicit threat of violence — is on its face unacceptable; that violence did indeed occur is unspeakable.”

Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller (D) said the statue would now be speedily removed as an “urgent matter of public safety” until authorities determine a next step.

Fine. So when a bunch of soldier-wannabes in costume show up waving guns at a protest, tell the police to speedily remove them, too.

The governor of New Mexico called the “militia” “unregulated”… Uh, oh…that would mean that they don’t meet the 2nd Amendment condition of a “well regulated militia”. So…take away their guns.

I think that’s a roll of TP wrapped in tinfoil around the guy’s neck. Presumably it’s meant to be a witty statement about the pandemic measures? Hard to tell when a witless moran tries to be witty.

Oh, but they need their guns to stand up to the government in case it becomes tyrannical.

Bundle ’em up with the Trump mob and pack ’em off to gitmo.

I hope I’m wrong, but this may be the time to start preparing for what may be coming a few months down the road.

On a lighter note, apparently there’s a petition circulating somewhere to replace confederate statues with statues of mothman.

Did the cops give water to the white cosplayers because it’s hot out? Feed them burgers while they waited for transport? It wouldn’t be the first time.

I tried to post the link for you, but I see you’v got it.

    It is excellent!

The man who did the shooting was NOT one of the quasi-military terrorists.

That statue the douchebags were “protecting” was of a conquistador who murdered hundreds of Acoma Indians. Just thought we should keep in mind, right-wing militia types explicitly supporting history of genocide…

I’m glad they are taking those statues down. Hopefully they will never be put back up. Oñate did some horrible things; if we’re going to have public art that’s great but we don’t need to put up statues to awful people. Lots of other options.

Also, what a bunch of jerks, showing up to a peaceful protest pretending to be Rambo.

    Wrong!
Tell the police to shoot them on sight. Give them the civil war they want.

    re @15:
a similar situation happened quite recently, excuse me for not citing a link. A Black Doctor was trying to help an injured man and was heldback by a group of angry whites, He pulled out his personal gun, pointed it in the air to show he had one, and called 911 to report being harassed. The police arrived and arrested the doctor for [brandishing a firearm in public].
I summarize this event here as an example of the gross hypocrisy of the enforcement of gun laws as part of systemic racism in our society
    excuse me for the tangent

And had those been black men armed and dressed in the same fashion, the police response would have been . . . ? (I think we all know the answer here. )

When Sir Robert Peel founded the first modern English police force, he insisted that their uniforms be based on those of footmen – the everyday servants of the well to do – not on those of soldiers. He did this because he wanted policemen to be aware at all times of their role – civilian public servants there to aid the public.
