I’m a backslider!

I’m uploading a new video right now which will be posted first to Patreon, and tomorrow to everyone else, and it chewed up my whole day. I futzed around way too long trying to do the editing under Linux, and was tearing my hair out — I’m not exactly skilled at the video editing thing at the best of times, but trying to use all new software which was full of Linux geekiness was just too much. So I gave up and did it on my Mac. The whole workflow is so much simpler and more comfortable there for an amateur.

I’ll continue to try and master my Linux-fu, but I’m not quite there yet on the video front.

It’s good exercise for your brain. Just keep telling yourself “You’re learning a new skill”. It’s what I’ve been telling myself about Instagram for a month. Still not great at it.

kdenlive is a good, feature rich editor that I use most often but it definitely takes a bit to learn. I used to use OpenShot and I remember it being simpler and good for most basic editing. But its been a while so I may be misremembering. https://www.openshot.org/

Welcome to Linux. I’d like to be able to say it’ll get easier, but it never will ;)

Reminds me of something I had to do about 20 years ago. I had to migrate a database for a library, but it was on a machine that ran DOS 5.something. Yeah, that was not easy. Keep in mind this the year 2000. I got it done, but it involved building a “new” IBM AT compatible to read the hard drive. Getting that data to a newer machine without the aid of any modern convenience like USB thumb drives or ethernet. Then finding just the right hard drive that would work in both the old AT machine and the “modern” 486 I was moving it to. Oh yeah this was something I did for the school I was attending at the time. Can we please spend some money on public education yet?
