I’ve been watching The Plot Against America, a miniseries that’s currently partway through on HBO (with The Wire producers), a story based on the Philip Roth novel of the same name. It’s an alternative history in which Lindbergh defeats Roosevelt in the 1940 election and makes a pact with the Nazis, and things happen similarly to this comic strip. The TV series has tossed in some asides that sneakily reflect our current administration. The show is well done enough to be quite scary.

I have absolutely no doubt that Trump would have been happy to work with Hitler.
Which is all well and good, but we are now in Great Depression II — 16 million+ unemployed, probably more but the websites processing applications crashed, and now we’re going to get a choice between Trump and somebody who believes strongly in austerity and doesn’t want to tax the rich. If Trump loses, we get to see Biden showing us how FDR could have been a better President by refusing to have the New Deal.

If I thought Trump wanted to tax the rich, I would be voting for him in spite of everything else. At this point, practically every problem we have in this country right now has either sprung directly from, or is made massively worse by, inequality. The whole point of phrasing it that was is that both choices are terrible. We either get Trump destroying everything in novel ways, or we get Biden normalizing all of Trump’s novel forms of destruction the same way Obama normalized GWB’s policies — and in the latter case, since Biden is going to be desperately ineffective at running the country for a wide variety of reasons, in 2024 whatever outright Nazi the Republicans run will win in a landslide. The Democrats got played; Trump’s supporters were donating to Biden’s PAC specifically to make this happen, and we took the bait.
How would any of Biden’s supporters’ posts be different if they and Biden were both Republicans?

@Vicar’s claims about Biden not wanting to tax the rich is a complete fabrication. The ACA, or the Big Fucking Deal in Biden’s words, increased taxes significantly on the richest, and redistributed that money to the poorest.
This was all despite stringent opposition by Republicans, and the fact that he and Biden inherited the worst recession since the Great Depression which naturally required tax cuts to begin with.
