Hello from Longmont, CO

Hey, I’m visiting my granddaughter for a few days — she gave me a shy smile last night, so we’re off to a great start — and we have a busy day ahead of us, entertaining and being entertained by the child, but I also noticed their garage is a promising place to look for spiders, and the temperature is so much warmer than Minnesota that I’ll have to explore outside, too.

I’ll probably post pictures later. You’ll have to take bets on whether they are of adorable giggling baby, or of spiders. Which would you prefer?

Um, PZ, aren’t there an offspring and offspring-in-law there somewhere, too? Those of us who’ve followed the blog for awhile like an occasional mention of them as well…

Both. Child with spider sounds good as long as she does not eat the research. Well, one or two is a snack is okay.

That’s a hard call, but given that your daughter and granddaughter may one day have some say in your elder care, I’d err on the side of baby, even if she does have only 2 eyes.

From voyager@#5’s comment, I just had an inspiration for a product! That would be child-safe googly eyes that could be stuck on an infant’s head so it wouldn’t be so obviously lacking in the eye department.

The “shy smile” is probably because with your fur face she thinks you are a giant cat.

I prefer spiders. I understand that parents and relatives consider their kids adorable, but personally I couldn’t care less about photos of children.
