Symbolism is not evidence

Those QAnon weirdos clearly think it is, though, which is probably a big part of their delusional worldview. Did you know that red shoes are significant and symbolic to the occult because they make leather red shoes out of babies’ skin? And that because Tom Hanks made a movie called The Man with One Red Shoe, Hanks must be a big time pedophile? Q says so! The movie also stars Carrie Fisher, Dabney Coleman, and Charles Durning, all major leaders in a child sex trafficking ring, apparently, or they wouldn’t have worked in such a flagrantly evil film.

Look on this page and imagine all the dead babies, sacrificed for their occult powers!

By the way, QAnon has to be the most deranged of all the modern cults. Name one that is worse.

    Name one that is worse.

That would be a toss up between general theism and capitalism.

    @1- Akira
What do you get when you mix politicized theism and unbending advocacy for capitalism?

  3. Dr Sarah says

Wait, what? Would it make the remotest difference to anything if I pointed out that babies don’t have red skin?

Probably not… these people do not sound as though logic and facts are big on their agenda. Sigh.

I dunno. Scientology. LDS. They have far more adherents and power and they are equally ridiculous. You specified modern so I exclude Christian, Moslem and Jewish sects.

  5. hemidactylus says

QAnon, LDS, and CoS each have very minor impacts on the world at large. I can think of a very prominent and influential cult who was coopted by new leader just over 3 years ago and is currently running roughshod (and amok). That would be the worse cult in the OP.

People casually toss about terms like crazy for believers in this kind of nonsense. Liz Crokin is in fact one of the rare examples that might actually have mental health problems. Crokin has claimed she has brain damage from meningitis and encephalitis that resulted from a herpes infection she received from a former boyfriend.

That must be why the very chic Louboutin heels, with their classic red soles, are so expensive. All that baby skin to acquire and tan and dye.

And that was undoubtedly the secret meaning of Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale, The Red Shoes (which is actually quite sadistic) and the famous ballet movie of the same name.

I concur. Factor in GOP’s dominance/allegiance inside the military and corporate/banking culture the power is beyond just political in scope. The allegiance of blind stupidity to occult and cult says it all.

  9. Mobius says

I seem to recall the One Red Shoe was a canvas tennis shoe. So canvas is made from baby skin? Think of all the babies the Royal Navy must have sacrificed to make all those sails.

Of all the cults that are known and have an inordinate influence, real influence over power in the U.S. I would have to suggest that the Federalist Society is one of the most pernicious.
there is also an insider Republican “prayer group” in Washington that is also of note.
these “respectable” fringe groups are a source of plenty paranoid conspiracy theories which are often hyped by opportunistic politicians to distract and manipulate the popular attention away from what they are doing.

    Name one that is worse.

The belief that “Dr Veronica Ivy” is a women’s cycling champ.

The belief that a woman who wants to live like a man and have vaginal sex with men is “gay”.

The belief that, without evidence, just a simple incantation, a man can magically Transubstantiate into a woman.

    Symbolism is not evidence.

American Exceptionalism. It has the leadership of both major parties (Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden have all public affirmed belief that America is exceptional in more or less those specific words, and Republicans demonstrate their belief in it every day) and all of the membership of one party and most of the other, and unlike QAnon and Scientology and so on, it has nukes, drone bombers, and the ability to deploy troops.

    What did I win?

    It isn’t very effective.

The Man with One Red Shoe was a remake of the far funnier French film The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe. However since the original involved a blond guy and no red shoes, QAnon must be giving it a pass. On the other hand, it’s French so not entirely free of suspicion.

The transphobia is bad enough, but now you’ve gone and offended me as a sorcerer…

The belief that, without evidence, just a simple incantation, a man can magically Transubstantiate into a woman.

You claim, without evidence, that a simple incantation is uttered to change a person’s gender. What, then, is the incantation? If it’s not real, then it can’t hurt you. (Actually, it can’t hurt you to type an incantation anyway, but I wouldn’t expect ignorant bigot like you to grasp a nuance like that.) So write it. If it’s simple, you ought to be able to just about manage it.

Further, that’s not how transubstantiation works. Even if we assume that an incantation is uttered that is purported to change a person’s gender, human flesh remains human flesh. If the principle substance remains unchanged, then it cannot be transubstantiation.

Nor can it be Transubstantiation; that capitalization refers to a specific ritual that isn’t relevant here, unless we’re talking about gingerbread people.

    Symbolism is not evidence.

…and as an English major. Jesus Unleavened Christ, words have meanings.

Sorry Sparkles, but I would have to classify your response as an example of Manichean privatism. Whomever is not us is against us and thus the same (eg- for Trump).

  18. hemidactylus says

To be fair, and less (or more?) grumpily intemperate, on another blog (that shall not be named), commentariat enjoys labeling and otherizing the “Woke”. I guess they got bored with “regressive left“ as the target categorization of their tribe defining demonization. Grrr!

Still Manichean privatism. Pretty common thing that. I do it too.

  19. chuckonpiggott says

You neglected to mention the other Q evidence. Tom starred in”Big”. He played a child in a grown mans body and had sex with an adult woman. This is obvious proof of the pedophila.

Indeed, they do. Take, for example, the meaning of the word “woman”.

As an English major, I thought you would know that without needing it explained to you.

This whole Qanon thing really bothers me. Both because it is so fucking painfully idiotic and absurd, and that it’s gotten someone in the real world to actually attack a pizza shop and threaten people, and possibly more direct harm in other instances.

Anyways, congrats microrapter@20, that was perfect. :)

    Creepy redness.

Actually I found Colin’s work in Dexter to be disturbing alongside my hero Eddie Olmos. Nothing against Colin or Daddy Tom. Just gotta represent for fuckin’ Lt Castillo, Adama, and the long frozen Professor in Dexter. Best season though Lithgow’s was close second.

The one marking territory at #17 doesn’t look like they’ve ever communicated with a trans person.

Evidence? Evidence of what? The word doesn’t seem to be relevant to any gender issue that I’ve seen. Trans people feel what they feel. Millions of people with pronoun sensitivity is pretty significant.

If #17 thinks someone owes them evidence of something personal I think they are an intrusive ignoramus with boundary problems.

  26. Kagehi says

@servalan The dictionary is rife with words that describe things that don’t exist, like phlogiston, things that have changed meanings, and thus now contained multiple (sometimes even contradictory) ones, and even words that mean utterly different things depending on which country you are in – like spunk – US: Vim, vive, a spring in the step, Britain: sperm. The fact that “woman” in the west has some bullshit essentialist definition that isn’t shared, at all, universally across the whole world, but which you desperately want to be the “correct one”, means exactly jack all when it comes to reality. Actual evidence is what matters, and there is vast evidence in favor of it being a “generalized” thing, not an essential one, like all parrots are birds, but all birds are not parrots, where, in this case, “parrot” is “woman”.

    Red Shoes.
Just came across this disturbing knowledge: I know some badgers. When you search just badgers’ there is nothing that comes up. You have to search both terms together. Very obvious from how the Hebrews understood it to be. And for those who think it accidental:
Ex 36:9 ‘he [Moses] made a covering for the tent [tabernacle of Jehovah] of rams’ skins dyed red [symbol of the human flesh], and a covering of badgers’ H8476 [a special skin/leather dyed red see Micah 2:2;3] skins [owr]. Plural indicating multiple victims and ‘above’ called a veil.
There is also the veil which is said to be the eyelid or the flesh [uwr] of the body which blinds [denominatively from H5785 [skin] through the idea of a film/skin over the eyes owr] a person.
Hebrew 8477 Tachash, takh’-ash; the same as H8476 Tachash, a nephew by a concubine Reumah by Nahor brother of Abraham:—Thahash. So it is definitely linked to people and their lineage is given.
So there are two sets of skins- one signifying the human body of ram’s skins [fake/substitution/scapegoat] and then the human skin [real victim] above/over covering the temple or the eye as the light of the body.
This badger’s skin can be the skin of an enemy per Job 2:4 ‘skin for skin’ is one life for one life however when the chief people of Israel sacrificed their children and enemies in the valley of Hinnom they were rebuked by Micah and the color red is because it was just flayed off the body to make the shoes…
Micah 1:1-3 ‘O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment? Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them’ indicating the children or other sacrificial victims in the valley of Hinnom’s son.
Jeremiah 19:9 ‘I [Jehovah] will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters’
Ezekiel 16:10: I [Jehovah] clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.
Badger’s Hebrew 8476 tachash, takh’-ash; probably of foreign derivation; a (clean) animal with fur, probably a species of antelope:—badger. It is separate from the word skins indicating its source.
The ancient versions understand it to be the color of skin both for the covering of the holy temple [the human body] and for shoes [source of the Red Shoe story of Mccauley Culkin] and this meaning is infused into the Talmud.
