How awful was last night’s Trump rally?

This awful.

It’s chilling how the audience boos when he mentions Somalia. Then they cheer when he claims to have stopped the flow of refugees, and is going to insist on more local control of who is allowed to settle here.

FYI: the settlement of Somali refugees in the area was not imposed or forced on Minnesota. We welcomed them here, just as we welcomed the Hmong who settled here earlier. They are not a drain on local resources, they are active members of the community who contribute their labor to our cities. They are part of us. The only outsider here is the orange bigot who showed up on our doorstep yesterday to recruit other deplorables to join in his hate campaign.

We have many Somali students here at UMM, and they are intelligent, hard-working, ambitious members of our scholarly culture. Send more. One thing we don’t need more of is MAGA-hat-wearing neo-Nazis.

It’s why I protested. I doubt that Trump cares whatsoever. But I wanted my immigrant neighbors to know that we love and support them. That this is not Minneapolis, and that they are welcome here.

Defending immigrants as being hard-working and productive doesn’t really help because it’s still catering to part of the genociders’ view.

Lazy and unmotivated Somali immigrants belong here too just as much as all the lazy and unmotivated white people.

Well yeah, great. But they aren’t white, PZ. Sheesh. One would think that an educated man as yourself would understand these nuances. (insert eye-rolling smiley thingie here)

Down here in FL, particularly in S. FL where I grew up and now the Tampa area I reside in we’ve had immigrant issues with Cuban, Haitian, and now post Maria Puerto Rican refugees. In my 40+ years down here I have yet to witness any significant negative impact on my community from these people. All I’ve noticed is that there’s interesting new restaurants opening up and maybe I have to put in a little bit of effort to understand some coworkers’ or neighbors’ accents. Seriously. part of me just thinks these racist fuckers are simply pissed off that their favorite dive bar or McDonalds closed down and is now an ethnic market. Just STFU and have a sambusa. If more varied lunch options is your definition of “destroying America”, well, F.O.A.D.

I noticed that every single one of the MAGA hat wearers in the background are white.

I guess the token black guy from that cult couldn’t make it.

Completely staged. They’re also almost all wearing the same “Cops for Trump” shirt. Police were barred from wearing their unis to political events so someone started making those shirts and apparently they’re being handed out to everyone including teenage girls and retirees. I guess some people are willing to forego dignity in order to be props and have the opportunity to smell Trump’s flatulence.

@Ragutis: Puerto Ricans in Florida are not immigrants.

Did you have to go and make me look stupid in front of all these people? I usually prefer to do that myself, thank you.

    Oh, wait… I did.

    Point taken.

post Maria Puerto Rican [climate] refugees
Similar to New Orleans climate refugees though it sounds as if those from Puerto Rico are more abandoned byy the US Gov’t.

If any of those “Police for Trump” Maggats standing behind and cheering the bigot-in-chief really are police they should be identified and stood down from duty. In a city with a large and well-settled immigrant population you can’t have racist bigots on the front line of administering the law.

I believe you are using the old, obsolete definition of immigrant. The current definition of immigrant is anyone not white.
