Burn them to the ground

The whistleblower’s letter is now available to be read online. I’m hoping this becomes a historic document and isn’t just swept under the rug, as the Republicans and president would like.

The president is corruption personified. Trump must be destroyed, utterly and without pity. He’s a tumor who must be cut out and action taken so another such malignancy cannot arise.

Trump needs to be destroyed, and the way to do that is to attack him relentlessly, and in particular to mock him, since mockery — especially in regard to his most evident failings and vulnerabilities — is the thing a malignant narcissist can least stand. (The Republican party must also be destroyed, but one thing at a time).

We can do two things at a time. The way to destroy the Republican party is to end gerrymandering and voter suppression and all the anti-democratic chicanery they do, and to root out and shame the racism that fuels the “Grand Old Party”.

That must be the same President who has been mentoring Johnson and Kim Jong-un. No wonder Putin grins so much.

Given the view from outside the USA, he sees similar to a lot of the US elected elite, he is too stupid and too greedy to hide it

I so want this to lead to jail time for several in the Alt-White House, including the Orange Turd himself and some family members. There’s a precedent to pardon him if he resigns, but I think that’s only for federal crimes and I’m hoping states will go after them. Maybe he will be stupid enough to fight it and get impeached and convicted, but I doubt it. He’s too much of a coward.

I do so want to be optimistic that this will lead to the con artist’s downfall, but I really fear that so much of the public will remain ignorant (willfully or otherwise) that it may actually fire up his base and perhaps draw others who are persuaded to or reflexivy come to the defense of their elected (sort of) leader. This may be when throwing around “Witch Hunt” and “Fake News” really starts to pay off and appealing to more than his usual 35% base. Our best hope may just be one Big Mac too many. (Do you think he eats them from White House china, or straight out of the wrapper?)

And don’t get me started on my worries about Pence taking over the job.

this is where it has been headed from the very beginning. Most of “his” enterprises have ended up in court he likes to fight it to the bitter end and mostly loses. he will try to make a deal at some point so he can keep is “good name and reputation” so he can keep is brand intact but I think it may be too late for that. That strategy might work in some businesses but in government at this level too much is in public, everybody is watching all the f’n time.
The republican supporters din government and in the party will profess loyalty to him for as long as they judge it safe for themselves individually and then they will declare their “patriotism and loyalty to the constitution and the rule of law” and drop him like a hot rock wrap themselves in the flag and hope that their own chicanery is not revealed.
I doubt “He” end in jail could happen though. The best thing would be for his brand’s cachet become so reduced that he will be force to liquidate the whole thing to pay off the debts and his kids start fighting openly with him and each other. I have no idea what Vlad will do to collect his debt something interesting I am sure

@10, essentially my prediction entirely, although some state charges may get applied to the hilt.
But, the more the GOP tries to spin this, the more that very act of lawless, reckless disregard for rule of law and national security will act as a millstone around the neck of an already floundering party.
So, let’s hope that they keep on fighting and lose even more support, other than Trump’s extremist base.

Just a warning, don’t be surprised if there is a greater uptick in mass murders and mass violence. Such minds simply think that way.
They’ve already been primed, this would be viewed as a threat to their recent empowerment and arrests are already at a record high.

Putin’s already got what he wants. General turmoil, the starkest political divide the U.S. has probably seen since the Civil War, distrust in media and the election system. He has no need to conquer the world if he can make the west splinter, squabble and fail with some Facebook memes and hacking a computer or voting machine or two.

To Putin, Trump’s an instrument, a tool… just something to be used. A small part of me (very small. very very small. miniscule) wants to see Trump at the end of his second term call up his buddy Vlad to discuss the Trump Tower Moscow project and just get “We’re sorry, but the number you’ve dialed is not in service. Please check the number and try again.” (Pretty sure he’ll get the same response when he tries calling MbS)

I was not thinking of the political debt alone but thinking of the money he and his oligarch friends have invested into his entire enterprise. Trump is famous for sticking it to his creditors as well as to his vendors I doubt that Vlad will be satisfied with what he has gotten out of the deal so far alone. Vlad does not seem like a very generous nor forgiving guy, not live and let live at any rate. the biggest chaotic effect has been to get the US out of the accepted #1 spot as “leader of the free world” Europe seems to be surviving OK as well as the rest of the world.
I think in drama the main difference between tragedy and comedy is mostly tempo. the one we are witnessing is excruciatingly slow if it was played faster would more closely resemble a farce

I don’t know if they’ve really had to put that much money into it. Probably haven’t spent as much as the Mercers or others have because they just needed to give this state or that district a little nudge.

I’m certain money isn’t Putin’s biggest concern (supposedly, he’s the richest man on the planet, if only anyone could track down all of his dough), but there’s already one oligarch that we know of getting a nice deal in Moscow Mitch’s state. Would not surprise me in the least when we find more swooping in on the lands the admin is opening up for mining and drilling. They’re probably rubbing their hands together at the prospect of the Northwest Passage becoming a viable and profitable trade route as well.

by enterprise I meant his businesses interests hotels golf courses and such that the russian mob (Putin & co.) has been using as investments and money laundering for some time.
Trump clearly thinks his position as president is just another business interest like all the rest.
he is pretty tangled up with the russians Putin does not forget.

Trump should not only be impeached but also tried and sentenced as a war criminal by an international court, and also domestically for various violations of the constitution much more serious than what the current circus is about.

But if we accept that, it raises some rather troubling questions. The previous president, constitutional law professor Nobel Peace Prize laureate Barack Hussein Obama, did the following:

Inherited two illegal undeclared foreign wars and made them seven.
Intensified the drone bombing campaign throughout multiple countries in Africa and the Middle East, killing thousands of innocent civilians
Was the first president in US history to order the assassination of a US citizen, completely illegally and outside the court system, just by decree. And he did that on several occasions.
Which was a part of a general assault on civil liberties, the implementation of illegal completely anti-constitutional all-pervasive mass surveillance, etc.

For the first two of these things, if international law is to mean something, the death penalty should have been handed and carried out a long time ago, and not just to the president in question but numerous members of the administration (and, of course, the previous administration, and the one before it, etc.)

All four of these things are blatant violations of various provisions in the US constitution, and should have resulted in impeachment quite early in his presidency.

Yet for some strange very difficult to identify reason the same people who have been going crazy every day about Trump’s antics, never said anything about his predecessor when he was doing those things. I wonder why…

  12. John Morales says

    stopthemadness, you are amusing.

I mean, even were the previous administration to have been as bad or worse, it makes zero difference to the truth of this one.

(Note I am not from the USA, so I care fuck-all about your constitution. But comparing Trumpianism with Obama’s administration is silly)

  13. stopthemadness says

But comparing Trumpianism with Obama’s administration is silly

I don’t see it as silly at all, quite the opposite.

First, it is the utter failure of the Obama administration that brought Trump into office, so if you want to understand why we have the orange man in office, you have to very closely examine those failures.

Second, there is indeed no difference between the two in terms of the violation of international and domestic law that the empire is committing every day. If anything, it is in Trump’s favor as he has not started any new wars while Obama started about five. Also, Trump, if he had actually been able to take power, which has been prevented from so far, would probably rule as an isolationist. Which is exactly what the imperial presidency is supposed not to do, so powerful interests are against him for that reason. Even though it probably would be a good thing on balance.

What people do not like about Trump is that he is not sticking to the proper decorum that the CEO of the empire is supposed to adhere to. The actual policies aren’t really that important. Which is why you see “liberals” making heroes out of the very same intelligence officials that were staffing the Bush II administration and who were responsible for its atrocities. Simply because those people are against Trump.

Because, again, it is not about the policies, it is about the optics.

Most of those people are comfortably well off upper and upper middle class professionals. Their belonging to those classes is associated with sticking to a certain behavioral code, and, in times when everyone else is being squeezed out and downwardly mobile, they are, consciously or subconsciously, mortally afraid of falling out too. An instinctive reaction to which threat is to affirm belonging to their class at every opportunity by demonstrating how tightly they stick to the behavioral code. And given that Trump openly flaunts those behavioral norms, open visceral hate for Trump is an obvious way to do that.

And again, this has nothing to do with the president openly violating the law, committing war crimes, and eviscerating civil liberties, the imperial presidency, corporations taking over the country, or anything of the sort. Which is why when the CEO of the empire was putting a pretty face to it and maintained proper decorum, they were all in support of him even though there was little material difference in terms of policies on most issues.

  14. John Morales says

What people do not like about Trump is that he is not sticking to the proper decorum that the CEO of the empire is supposed to adhere to.

    <snicker>

“decorum, CEO of the empire, supposed to”

Because, again, it is not about the policies, it is about the optics.

Heh. “optics”, eh? Those would be the indecorous ones, no?

(You wandered in from some alternate reality, then?)

And again, this has nothing to do with the president openly violating the law, committing war crimes, and eviscerating civil liberties, the imperial presidency, corporations taking over the country, or anything of the sort.

You have everything to do with over-egging the pudding, but.

you are kind of full of it.
the comb-over head of a dishonest organization got elected through cheating, manipulation and blatant racism
since he does not believe in democracy nor understand it he has not been very eager to increase our military actions in support of it. He does seem very favorable to Putin in his war on Ukraine even suggesting on camera to the visiting president the other day that he should get together with Putin.

Bye, stopthemadness. You are just too full of shit.

I don’t know anyone who considers Obama a saint — there are lots of things where he failed, or compromised too much. But he stands so far above Trump or Bush that it insulates him from the criticism he should have gotten. It’s the tragedy of lowered expectations.
