You evil bastards

The US government has been separating children from their parents at the border, and at this point they do not even know exactly how many children have been torn away from their families. HHS has admitted that the number “was certainly larger than the 2,737 listed by the government in court documents”, and that they’re going through over 47,000 case files to sort out the mess that shouldn’t have been made in the first place. It’s going so slowly that they’re about to throw up their hands and give up…so they’ve got a new rationalization.

The Trump administration says it would require extraordinary effort to reunite what may be thousands of migrant children who have been separated from their parents and, even if it could, the children would likely be emotionally harmed.

Jonathan White, who leads the Health and Human Services Department’s efforts to reunite migrant children with their parents, said removing children from “sponsor” homes to rejoin their parents “would present grave child welfare concerns.” He said the government should focus on reuniting children currently in its custody, not those who have already been released to sponsors.

It would destabilize the permanency of their existing home environment, and could be traumatic to the children, White said in a court filing late Friday, citing his years of experience working with unaccompanied migrant children and background as a social worker.

Where was your fucking concern for the children when you snatched them from the arms of their mothers, you goddamned pompous bureaucrat? If you sincerely wanted to avoid traumatizing and destabilizing children, the place to start practicing what you should have learned as a social worker was in refusing to tear apart families in the first place. If separating children from their ‘sponsor’ homes would cause them emotional harm, you’ve just admitted that separating them from their natural families had to have been devastating.

These criminal fuckers need to be burned to the ground.

This is gonna go down in history like the Japanese internment camps, except it won’t act as a great reminder that even good people can fall into cruelty. Instead, it’ll show how evil people given power can do all sorts of horrendous bullshit without much ability to stop it.

When this whole thing started, many people rightly said that this was going to funnel children into the evangelical adoption system, where they adopt kids at a dime a dozen and then often make them work. Remember Pete#s Dragon? Much like that, only without the dragon.
Those children are already traumatised. I’ve seen a couple of videos where they were reunited with their parents and the children were often either emotionless or hostile towards their crying parents, because those evil bastards who took them from their parents also told them lies about their parents.

    Shorter Johnathon White:

We can’t give the kids back, the conditions we’re subjecting their parents to are inhumane!

I guess it’s time for the NATO allies to invade the USA for humanitarian reasons.

They’re not criminal fuckers, though. The “illegals” are. That’s the problem. The legal system is unjust.

There doesn’t seem to be any difference between this and the forced abduction of children from the opponents of the military dictatorship in Argentina in the 70s, with all the atrocious short and long term consequences.

How do we know these monsters haven’t sold these children into sex slavery? The stability of their permanent home environment could be a constant horror. Why should we believe people who hate brown babies would not be doing horrible things to them?

The excuse is bullshit. It’s the same as the excuse here in OZ about stopping refugees arriving by boat as a safety issue and concern for their welfare. It’s a fig leaf on top of rank racism.

Isn’t what what we know they’re doing bad enough? While it wouldn’t be surprising to find that this was also happening, but the facts as laid out should be more than enough.

I mean – we already had a news story months ago that said that they scrapped whatever system was in place previously to keep track of which child goes with which parent. I’ve known about this for a while. Glad that it’s finally getting some press. This is for me, of what I know, far and away the most morally outrageous and horrible thing that the Trump administration as done in the open. I won’t be satisfied until Trump and everyone else in a decision making capacity are brought to The Hague, or some equivalently effective American criminal prosecution for crimes against humanity.

  11. Frederic Bourgault-Christie says

@12: I doubt either of us will end up satisfied then. Even if Trump eventually gets enough elite pressure to step down and sees an impeachment, he’ll go the same way Nixon did. Why would Trump suffer consequences for this when Nixon didn’t have to answer for his role in Fred Hampton’s murder? It’d take an immense American movement, like say mainstream Democrats. We both know that there’d be comparisons to “Lock Her Up” for Hillary Clinton and it’d be viewed as partisan punishment.

“I’m still wondering how this is not considered child trafficking.”

Well, it IS child trafficking. It’s just not being called that in the media. But nothing is stopping us from calling it that!

Because people learn from their mistakes.

    That was easy.
