The brave little intern

As President Trump walked through the Capitol building, an intern shouted out the only reasonable response to the man: “Mr President, FUCK YOU!”. The Capitol Police are now looking for her. It’ll probably cost her her job.

If it’s any compensation, I think we should erect a large marble statue of her on the mall, facing the White House.

If she’s caught, that is. I’m hoping all of her friends and colleagues are protecting her identity right now.

Just searched . . . [ “white house” intern “fuck you” trump ]

    [Newsweek]

The intern for Senator Maggie Hassan, identified as Caitlin Marriott, 21, uttered the expletive at Trump as he headed to a meeting with Republican lawmakers on immigration last week. Marriott has since been suspended, Hassan’s spokesman said on Monday.

Conway said sarcastically on Fox & Friends Wednesday that she’s sure that Marriott is “being deified on the left, the socialist left,” for her actions.

“She got a week suspension and still has her job,” Conway said.

    [Vice news]

The president should be safe now from the expletives of that intern who yelled “fuck you” at him last week — she’s been briefly suspended, and her access to the Capitol is restricted for the rest of her internship.

She’s an intern for Sen. Maggie Hassan, Democrat from New Hampshire, and she’s been widely reported to be 21-year-old Caitlin Marriott — though the senator’s office declined to confirm her name to VICE News. A one-week suspension and the confiscation of her ID badge is a pretty small price to pay for cursing a sitting president.

She’ll finish out the rest of her internship.

“We are aware of the situation and have taken disciplinary action, including a one-week suspension and revoking her Congressional intern ID badge (thereby restricting her access to the Capitol), in response to her breach of office policies regarding respectful and appropriate conduct. We also facilitated contact with Capitol Police,” Hassan’s communications director, Aaron Jacobs, told VICE News in a statement.

Last week, as President Trump walked toward a meeting with Republican lawmakers in the Capitol, the intern yelled, “Mr. President, fuck you!” About 15 seconds after she told Trump to fuck himself, Trump walked into the hallway. It was caught on video by a reporter.

    Hm.

The most recent article mentioning her that I can find is this one:

Angry Women Are Taken More Seriously When They’re Moms
(Caitlin Marriott is mentioned in contrast, as she was (presumably) not a mother)

@PZ: I posted a comment with 3 links and some blockquotes from those links, and the comment disappeared without an error. Is it in the spam folder?

  3. Owlmirror says

I’m wondering if the multiple instances of “fuck you” in some of the blockquoted text caused the spam filter to trigger.

  4. Owlmirror says

To summarize without the blockquotes or links: The intern was identified as 21-year-old Caitlin Marriott, intern to Senator Maggie Hassan, Democrat from New Hampshire, about a week after the incident. Caitlin was suspended for a week and had her ID badge revoked.

Conservative/GOP bloggers and pundits of course had a field day. But then, so did those who oppose them.

If a statue is to be erected it should have a prominent middle finger aimed at Donny dumpsterfire at all times. Maybe rotate based on his location. We have the technology!

More recent reasons to say “fuck you” to Trump.

    From Rolling Stone:

Though Trump’s decision to shut down the government may keep him in Washington for the holidays, it won’t keep taxpayers from footing a heavy portion of the bill for Mar-a-Lago’s New Year’s Eve party. As was noted by Quartz this week, government spending data shows that the Secret Service paid Grimes Events & Party Tents Inc. of Delray Beach, Florida, $54,020 on December 19th for “TENT RENTAL FOR MAL.” An employee of the company confirmed to Quartz that it is providing tents for the annual for-profit bash at Trump’s “Winter White House” in Palm Beach.

Americans chipping in to help Trump and the Palm Beach elite turn over their calendars isn’t unique to this year. The Secret Service spent just over $26,000 on an array of accessories for Mar-a-Lago’s New Year’s Eve party in 2017, which was attended by both Trump and Melania. Though it’s never not going to be a conflict of interest when the president has taxpayers subsidize a for-profit party at his private club, $54,000 for tents feels especially egregious given that the government is currently running under a partial shutdown that has deprived approximately 800,000 federal workers of their paychecks. […]

Tickets to Mar-a-Lago’s New Year’s Eve party are $1,000, up from $750 a year ago, which was up from $575 the year before that. The cost of joining the club has also skyrocketed since Trump became a political figure. Shortly after he took office, former Obama ethics chief Norm Eisen described the price hike to the Washington Post as “naked profiteering that is more like something out of the era of Louis XVI.” Anyone with an extra grand lying around can essentially buy access to the president. Followup to comment 9 above.

    From ethics watchdog Walter Shaub:

We are paying for security for the Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve party during the Trump shutdown. Secret Service can continue providing essential security during a lapse of appropriations, but it’s Trump who decides that govt officials need to be at his for-profit event. Shameless!

Y’know, Theodor Guisel (more commonly known as Dr. Seuss) was a political cartoonist during WWII, and one of his cartoons had a giant scowling Hitler rising over a landscape filled with people thumbing their noses at him and sticking out their tongues. The caption was “As long as men can do this, they are free”. Looks like we can’t “do this” any more, huh?

Have they not heard of free speech? Isn’t this what they want to be able to happen? I don’t understand why they can’t see the irony in tracking her down…

It is becoming darkly humorous that the US still has the sheer gall to call itself the ‘land of the free’ when a woman can be hunted by the police for stating an opinion, entirely non-violently and in a fully legal fashion, that pricks the swollen ego of the narcissist-in-chief.

I know the statue you want his recently been permanently planted facing Wall St., after her preliminary staredown of the Bull statue nearby.
Would be great to plant a duplicate across the street from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, maybe modified with the appropriate hand gesture*.
Regardless of who is in office, no matter how beneficial, the office needs to be reminded it is always being watched closely by the citizens for proper behavior.

She would also be our reminder to keep watching that person we put in there.

only while “45” in office, to be replaced by original hands afterwards.

  13. TGAP Dad says

I’ll chip in right now for said statue, displaying appropriate hand signal, to be placed in every public spot facing the front of a Trump property. If the identity of the young capitol intern is found, make it in her image, of course. Wouldn’t those be marvelous additions to the middle of 5th Avenue, the front gates of Mar a Lago, downtown Chicago…
Someone should start that GoFundMe page!
