Who for Minnesota Governor?

The frontrunner is Democrat Tim Walz. I scratched him off my dance card long, long ago: he’s got an A+ rating from the NRA. That ought to be the kiss of death for any politician any more.

On the other hand, Rebecca Otto has the recommendation of environmentalists and climate scientists like Michael Mann, along with an excellent record as the state auditor. She’s pro-democracy and pro-environment.

An A+ from climate scientists vs. an A+ from the freakin’ NRA. This one’s an easy choice. I want Rebecca Otto for governor of Minnesota.

PZ Myers says in this article, politicians approved by NRA.should not be supported. In earlier articles, he said politicians accused of sexual misconduct should not be supported. By raising multiple single issues, PZ creates the dilemma of one-issue politics, of oversimplifying political decisions in a complicated world. Unless Rebecca Otto is a political clone of PZ, there are other hidden single issues which challenge the wisdom of supporting or not any politician based on just one issue.

to yknot… Sure, theoretically, of course. But for this argument to have any weight, you have to provide some other real single issue that would disqualify Rebecca Otto.

Dismissing or disendorsing politicians based on two political issues in no way implies that he is going to do the same based on every political issue. Logic fail.

I mentioned Rebecca Otto because PZ supported her in the article, which makes her but a timely example. I made and make no criticism of her or her candidacy. My criticism is of advocating single-issue decision-maiking while simultaneously advocating multiple single issues. To those who dismiss this logic fail, ask yourself: What are the chances any other person, politician or otherwise, has the exact same priorities you do in all things at all times?

I dunno, how hard is it to find a candidate who supports neither sexual harassment and assault nor school shootings?

Seems to me that’s a pretty low bar for “decent human”.

Still concern trolling I see. It is up to US, NOT YOU, to decide which issues are so important to us that it supersedes almost all others in our final decision. Your concern is noted, and dismissed.

May I gently suggest another look at Erin Murphy, the only candidate who isn’t independently wealthy and who worked her way from being a staff nurse all the way to the House Minority Leader, as well as a true-blue progressive?

(I may not be entirely disinterested on this issue, but I won’t go into details.)
