Memo to James Damore

Guy. Guy. Guy. This is ridiculous. Your 15 minutes are up.

Damore is suing Google.

The author of the controversial memo that upended Google in August is suing the company, alleging that white, male conservatives are systematically discriminated against by Google.

James Damore was fired as an engineer after the manifesto, which questioned the benefits of diversity programs and suggested women may be biologically inferior engineers, was widely passed around the company. In a new lawsuit, he and another fired engineer claim that “employees who expressed views deviating from the majority view at Google on political subjects raised in the workplace and relevant to Google’s employment policies and its business, such as ‘diversity’ hiring policies, ‘bias sensitivity,’ or ‘social justice,’ were/are singled out, mistreated, and systematically punished and terminated from Google, in violation of their legal rights.”

You know, women only hold 17% of the tech jobs at Google. Conservatives control the federal government. Most of the top executives at Google are men. Google is currently being sued for wage discrimination against women. How can you possibly argue that men are being oppressed?

Also, the memo that got you fired was a crock.

Mr fired4truth is a true believer. From his perspective he’s right (never mind that individuals are not populations and the trends he assumed to exist in the populations don’t). If he’s right (and really, is there any other option?) this is the only logically consistent thing to do.

Please ignore the bad poetry below, a manic muse hijacked the keyboard and threatened to set my home page to r/redpill if I removed it.

Engineering happens this way don’t you know
Give a man a task to put on a show
Put him to work hard in a cave
Don’t let him rest – especially to shave
He toils. Others chat in the shade
That is the way fire is made!

Worforce diversity did I hear you say?
I know we can make it happen this way
I’m an expert in women – I know what they do
(I may even have met one or two)
Women like to talk – we know this true
To get them to work they should pair up in two
They like talking, you know, so what else should they do
Ah commenting and documenting, there’s grunge work to do!
Women don’t know how real things get made
Really they’re best at getting men sandwiches

And if there’s any evidence, a sign it’s not true
That must be a librul conspiracy too!

In case there might be any doubt about what a schmuck he still is and that it was not a one time misstep he decides to sue. I hope his lawyer gets payed up front.

He’s a moron who hasn’t figured out why he was fired.

If you say something true about how you’re a victim, this will not necessarily get you fired. You’re already a victim which means someone was able to take advantage of you. If it’s likely they can keep doing that even after you tell your story, your job is probably safe.

If you say something untrue that makes a caricature of the injustice that’s going on and points it out, then you’re gone. You’ll be fired very fast because making a caricature of injustice is going to attract notice and cause outside pressure to change. That’s dangerous so you’re out.

It’s generally disgusting and not true in every situation, but it fits more of them than I’m comfortable with. I think the biggest area where situations differ is when firing you is used as another way to victimize you.

James Damore claimed that conservative ideas are being repressed at Google. One conservative idea is the absolute sovereignty of employers over their businesses, with only one exception: if he doesn’t like it there, he can quit. But I notice that none of these people are not confronting him about this.

Also, the Wikipedia article that he quoted about women tending to be more neurotic was presumably on the Big Five personality traits: Extroversion, Openness to Experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Neuroticism. That article also stated that women tend to be more conscientious than men, and also that being more conscientious is a good predictor of success in academia and the workplace — one is more diligent and more organized. So by this standard, women are more worthy of good jobs than men. One wouldn’t want someone lackadaisical for top jobs.

I heard his attorney on NPR this morning saying that Damore was being discriminated against because he was a white man. I rolled my eyes so hard I nearly drove off the road.

    quoting from the link above

“Next time you get invited to speak at a conference, especially if you’re a white male — ask the organiser to confirm if you’re the only white male on the panel / in the speaker line-up,” he wrote.
“If not, say you’re honoured, but must decline, and give the reason. And because you are at Google, guess what — they’re going to change the panel for you. You’ll feel bad about inconveniencing them.

It’s an Oz paper, so their spellcheck has obviously edited a few words that need to be spelled correctly.

It’s as if he’s asking that google provide him with some affirmative action. You see the same when conservatives want their lousy ideas given ‘equal billing’ in academic debates. But yeah, since when did conservatives believe that the serfs had rights? Maybe such a talented guy can go found a more white, male conservative friendly alternative to google.
