These people are embarrassments, part MCCXVII

Our president, and Stephen Miller, are colossal fucking bigots.

Mr. Trump then began reading aloud from the document, which his domestic policy adviser, Stephen Miller, had given him just before the meeting. The document listed how many immigrants had received visas to enter the United States in 2017.

More than 2,500 were from Afghanistan, a terrorist haven, the president complained.

Haiti had sent 15,000 people. They all have AIDS, he grumbled, according to one person who attended the meeting and another person who was briefed about it by a different person who was there.

Forty thousand had come from Nigeria, Mr. Trump added. Once they had seen the United States, they would never go back to their huts in Africa, recalled the two officials, who asked for anonymity to discuss a sensitive conversation in the Oval Office.

If the impeachment doesn’t happen soon, when does the revolution begin? Because, you must remember,
a substantial part of the electorate, the part that voted for him, probably agrees with those statements.

You might want to switch to Arabic numerals for these, given how awkward the Roman ones are for the sorts of high numbers we can expect.

Or has Trump banned numerals from that part of the world too?

There won’t be one. We’ve been led to believe the extent of control we’re supposed to have on our own government is telling the politicians that in two to six years, there’s a chance that maybe their employment contract won’t be renewed. We don’t revolt. We’re pretty good at hashtags and witty signage though.

These people are beyond being embarrassments. The people who are embarrassments are the people who stood idly by and let this happen. Those are the same people who will stand idly by even while others give their all in opposition. The embarrassment is that we find ourselves in this position at all.

    …when does the revolution begin?

When what passes for a Left-Wing in this country realize that an actual “revolution” ISN’T about waving signs, chanting slogans, and smoking pot in front of the NYSE before the pigs show up to pepper spray and curb stomp them.

ISN’T about waving signs, chanting slogans,</blockquote

Sounds more like liberals than leftists to me.

Of course the White House denies Trump ever mentioned AIDS or huts in the conversation, and the NYT ends up being somewhat equivocal about it. The WH does seem to confirm the meeting, but they’ll probably deny even that soon.

This does say a couple of things: the WH was still in disarray back in June when this supposedly happened and it’s still leaking like a sieve.

In the meantime, Bannon has given Vanity Fair an interview. As reported in the Guardian he says, “The railhead of all bad decisions is the same railhead: Javanka.” They go on to report that he…

recalled an Oval Office meeting in which he accused Ivanka of being “the queen of leaks”. The first daughter allegedly retorted: “You’re a fucking liar!”

I just love the polite civility and professionalism of the current White House.

A failed state that we helped fail. They want to leave there and come here because it’s nicer here. Still.

Re More than 2,500 were from Afghanistan
Perhaps they were US employees and families now fleeing for their lives?

    @ PZ

I second @ 1 cartomancer’s suggestion of moving to Arabic numerals but have you considered a log scale?

Actually, for counting such large numbers as ‘times Trump and co have been a national embarrassment,’ we might want to go medieval classical ancient. PZ, you’re going to need to go Sumerian sexagesimal for that title.
