The argument can be used for anything!

Oh, no — Roy Moore blames drive-by shootings on the fact that evolution teaches that we came from animals. So Republicans all act like babies because we teach that they came from babies?

I need a nap right now because I got up from a bed this morning. That’s always a mistake.

Odd how those godless animals aren’t racing around everywhere doing drive-by shootings.

  2. Owlmirror says

Jeez, PZ, you’re just saying that because you came from a deuterostome, and everyone knows that deuterostomes spent their time either swanning about making fallacious arguments, or napping.

Funny how the people who are most concerned about the dire consequences of teaching children that they’re animals, don’t seem to give any thought to the consequences of teaching children that they are just plain evil, that they were born evil, that there is nothing whatsoever that they can do to stop being evil, that they deserve to be tortured forever, and that the absolute best they can hope for is that the entity which made them evil will decline to torture them if they spend enough time kissing that entity’s ass…

Yes and they were all given milk as babies and children, warping them to become killers. ALL of them. Ban milk.

Here we go with that idiotic “animal = feral monster” assumption again. Other species of animal are in fact capable of empathy and able to maintain rules of conduct in their communities. You don’t need a god to tell you that’s a good thing. Besides, a lot of the people who commit drive-by shooting are Christians, and a good number of them are probably creationists too.

  6. emergence says

Also, there are tons of countries where creationism is virtually unheard of that have far lower levels of violent crime than the U.S.

I’ve noticed that a lot of fundie talking points are built around them having virtually no knowledge of the world outside of their little red state bubbles, even in the rare cases when they originally come from other countries.

    #4, Nice, cubist,

Honestly I’ve never heard it put that way. What else should we expect from people who believe they are evil in their core? They believe they will do evil and they do. Then they believe they can be forgiven and all is ok. Wow.

I prefer the term talking points over argument as what is proffered seldom resembles an argument though if you try to counter them always ends in a pointless exercise and sometimes just a shouting match like that which passes for an argument on TV news.

@#4 &#8: That’s how it works.Intimidation. They got a G– pointed at your head, so you better do as they say, or else. They want us to know there are unpleasant consequences.

“-od” or “-un”, there’s hell to pay for non-compliance.

What’s the difference? The “-un” stops persecuting and tormenting your mind.

It’s because they think that’s what the bible, the most authoritative source on anything ever written, says about animals. Humans are special and supposed to rule over the world, so therefore animals aren’t capable of any sort of positive behaviors, they can’t know right from wrong because they don’t know about Jesus.

Creepy old men hitting on underaged girls is due to not enough people going to church. Oh wait.

I thought it that they did not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of right and wrong like Adam and Eve?

I assume that “drive by shootings” is some sort of racist dog whistle, and by “animals” he means black people?

Honestly, there’s plenty of animals whose behaviour would be a step up for the modern GOP. Bonobos aren’t prudes, dogs are loyal, crows have a sense of humor. Hell, even chimps and dolphins, nasty assholes that they are, understand how to take care of each other. I mean, their own mascot, the elephant, is a smart, compassionate, and curious critter. Hell, they mourn their dead and take care of their children and elderly, which is a damn sight better than the current crop of Republicans can manage.

(Also not a fan of the argument from negative consequences here. Even if teaching kids that they’re the product of billions of years of evolution – just like all the other life on earth – turned them into gun waving sociopaths, that still wouldn’t make the facts not the facts.)

    @gijoel,

If more of them went to church, he wouldn’t have had to hang out in the mall to hit on them.
