I was out to run some errands in the neighborhood, but no malls or a big box stores or a Targets or mobs of crazed shoppers or anything like that. Pretty tame where I went.

I went to the butchers for dog meat and sausages then to the greengrocers for apples and lots of vegetables, in other words normal food shopping. Sadly we in the UK have imported the whole Black Friday thing even though of course we don’t do Thanksgiving.

I avoid the Black Friday sales like the plague. I had to work yesterday so I was out and about, but luckily I didn’t run into any swarms of frenzied shoppers in my part of the UK. As jazzlet says, we Brits have imported the collective Black Friday insanity from the US, but it doesn’t tend to be as widespread or quite as virulent over here as it is in the colonies United States.

I am having an absolutely disastrous month, financially speaking. (Truck died, furnace died … and more.) However, for a welcome break, two of my brothers took me on an exploratory visit to two Idaho mountain ranges. We had an outdoor picnic in a spot free of snow. They paid for the gas and most of the food. The scenery was knock-you-to-your-knees spectacular. Much nicer than the mall. Much nicer than any kind of shopping. Joyful even.
