Really enjoyed the podcast. Also, wow, THAT was what started this whole thing? Talk about sensitive snow flakes…. melting in a puff of nothing…

Good stuff. Great summary of how things transpired, just as I remember it myself.

It occurred to me as you were discussing the problematic mindset involved that its heritage is closely related to rightwing political ideology, in particular, that promoted by that talk-radio windbag Rush Limbaugh who arguably most popularized the demonization of the word ‘liberal’ into a slur since the 80s-90s that has been mindlessly repeated ever since by the privileged malcontent snowflakes you were talking about.

I remember when the preferred red-button slur of right-wing ideologues like George Wallace was ‘permissive’ or ‘permissiveness’ back in the ’60s. Now it’s ‘liberal’. (And now I feel old).

Good conversation. But I have a minor quibble. Maybe you shouldn’t crow too loudly about having toned down the violent rhetoric while advocating the punching of Nazis.

Now, it’s not that I’m against punching Nazis. But it might be better to acknowledge the violence inherent in that system.

I haven’t listened to it yet but I hope you guys got along. I’ve been a PZ fan for over a decade and was sad when I heard Thomas’s comments about PZ last year. I’ve been enjoying SIO podcast since it started and I see you both as on the same side. I’m glad he’s changed and you both are fiends. I did a little jump for joy when I saw PZ’s name on the podcast :)

I’d seriously feel alone in the world if it was for the Pharyngula blog and SIO podcast. Living in a outback town does my head in.

So Thomas Smith is now become a fiend like PZ?
