SO MUCH WINNING

Just today, there has been a mass resignation from the President’s Committee on the Arts & Humanities and the Department of Commerce’s Digital Economy Board of Advisors. The American Red Cross, the Cleveland Clinic, and the American Cancer Society will no longer hold fundraisers at Mar-A-Lago. The director of the Office of Public Liaison George Sifaki has been fired.

And of course Steve Bannon is out.

It was a good day.

    You can add the Susan G. Koman Foundation and the Salvation Army to the list of groups that have canceled fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago. At this rate, Trump won’t have anyone but outright racists willing to associate with him. Unfortunately, that seems to include most of the GOP members of Congress, so we’ve still got a ways to go yet.

    That is a giant relief. With all of the disgusting things that tRump and his minions have already done I was feeling overwhelmed. This is proof that our voices are being heard and the GOP’s pathetic enabling of Trump won’t stand anymore!

    Pablo Campos @ #3 — I hope your optimism proves true. I hope that Bannon will quickly vanish from the media or disappear back into the bowels of the Mercer cesspool called Breitbart from whence he came.

    Yet, there’s plenty of evil still in the White House. Can we say Stephen Miller? Betsy DeVos? The family, the generals, and the New York horde? None of them are better. And when we turn to Congress there are only a few glimmers of decency. The overarching theme is pander to their base to get elected so they can stuff the pockets of their rich benefactors. I wish I could say this is just Republicans but it’s almost equally true of Democrats.

    Bannon is almost right about one thing: the American political system could use a good shaking up. Of course, he and his mentor are not really interested in fundamentally changing the system, just putting themselves in power.

    I know people keep saying Trump admires Putin but given the speed of Trump’s purges, I think it should be Stalin that he is emulating.

    Anybody that cancels out of Mar-A-Lago now is admitting that they were horrible enough to have an event scheduled there in the first place. The Red Cross? Susan B Koman foundation? Neither will ever see a dime from me again.

    Their fake surprise that this openly, consistently, deeply, proudly racist/sexist malevolent narcissist of a president said something bad does not buy them any points. I’m glad they pulled out, but what the absolute fuck were they doing in there in the first place? To twist an old phrase around, because it applies so perfectly here: you can tell a lot about a company by the man that they keep. Sad!

    @PDX_Greg

    Theres a lot of people who never saw Trump as racist. They saw him as a man who uses racism for his own ends but is not actually racist himself. Now to me theres no difference between the two, but thats the way a lot of people saw it. I encountered this myself from some acquaintances who were all Bernie busters/third party who not only told me this is what they believe, but also added the phrase “Trump has no ideology”. As if he is a fucking robot or something. Its weird.

    That day, when he defended the confederacy, and threw a wishy washy soft ball towards the nazis, he showed some of these idiots that “See, I was racist after all”. At least I hope.

  7. rietpluim says

    I’m with PDX_Greg. Everybody knew Trump is a racist, sexist, ableist, cowardly bully, and they chose to ignore it. Their response to Trump is just like Trumps response to Charlottesville: too little, too late.

    Everybody knew Trump is a racist [&tc]

    Everybody? That’s quite a strong claim; therefore: Citation needed.

    Please, don’t use dubious unsourced “(alternative) facts”; leave that shite to hair furor, teh dalekocracy, and nazis.

    the did not care because they were not a member of any effected minority or at least that is what they thought at the time

    Are you kidding?

    NO, a very strong claim was made, without any evidence or qualification. I repeat: Citation needed. It’s not just for trolls.

    Citation needed. It’s not just for trolls.

    Writing unhelpful comments isn’t just for trolls.

    There’s no way to provide a “citation” that everybody knew something. Whether or not that was “known” by every last person — indeed, some may not have even heard of him — the easily confirmed fact that Trump is a racist, sexist, ableist, cowardly bully is something certain people chose to ignore or to dismiss as unimportant.

    If somebody said “everybody knows Hitler was racist,” would you quibble with that? Would you think that comparing it to what Trump, etc., do is a constructive response? Or would you have a somewhat more charitable interpretation and say something interesting about it instead?

  12. consciousness razor says

    I shouldn’t have use the past tense. Obviously, many still choose to ignore it now, when they know about the awful shit he’s done. The fact this shit they know about isn’t “considered” to be racist by such apologists/denialists/bullshitters has no bearing whatsoever on the fact that it is. So, those people do know about the things that rietpluim is referring to.

  13. logicalcat says

    @unclefroggy

    I’m sure theres some truth to that. That they did not care because they were not part of an affected minority. But I live in Miami, and I saw a lot of people who are part of that affected minority who fit the description I gave. They seriously thought that Trump was not racist at all. Only using it to win the presidency but not actually being racist. I’m being to kind. Honestly these guys are idiots. His birtherism is enough to call him racist, and if everything else afterwards wasnt enough until it took him standing up for nazis and the confederacy then thats just plain dumb.

    There is sometimes a need to give people an out where they can save face. They may have been in denial about Trump or turned a blind eye to it. However “I told you so ” can make changing their stance too expensive for some people. Give the rats a break on their fleeing strategy and more will abandon ship.

  16. rietpluim says

    Okay, I spent the last few days traveling all round the world to ask every single person whether they knew that Trump is a racist, sexist, ableist, cowardly bully. To meet the most rigorous scientific standards, some unorthodox methods were needed to get an answer from newborn babies. Turned out that, though everybody else did know it, they did not. So unfortunately I cannot back up my claim. My apologies to Mr. Trump.
