I read yesterday that octopuses are cannibals. (I know, there are very many species, & it’s unlikely that they’re all cannibalistic.)

That second octopus is a lot more modern! Who ever thought color was a good idea? Everyone knows that color is bad and should be hated! Stupid 90’s, everything should be grey and black! Apple knows, just look at all the color they’ve cleansed from the iTunes interface!

Think I’ll pass on being touched by that Vorlon. And yeah, think I’ll agree with the other contributors, definitely not a Shadow because a) too colourful, and b) probably much cleverer and subtler than a Shadow could ever be.

    gijoel @5:

Best line and best scene in the whole series

So many to pick from, but I’m rather partial to

Who am I? I am Susan Ivanova, Commander, daughter of Andrei and
Sophie Ivanov. I am the right hand of vengeance, and the boot that is
going to kick your sorry ass all the way back to Earth. I am death
incarnate, and the last living thing that you are ever going to see. God
    sent me.

purestevil @2: Exactly the answer I had been hoping for. ;-)

Rob Grigjanis @11: Indeed, the series was filled with great lines. One of my favourites, rather fitting here would be:

If I take a lamp and shine it toward the wall, a bright spot will appear on the wall. The lamp is our search for truth, for understanding. Too often we assume that the light on the wall is God. But the light is not the goal of the search; it is the result of the search. The more intense the search, the brighter the light on the wall. The brighter the light on the wall, the greater the sense of revelation upon seeing it! Similarly, someone who does not search, who does not bring a lantern with him, sees nothing. What we perceive as God, is the byproduct of our search for God. It may simply be an appreciation of the light, pure and unblemished, not understanding that it comes from us. Sometimes we stand in front of the light and assume that we are the center of the universe. God looks astonishingly like we do! Or we turn to look at our shadow, and assume that all is darkness. If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose; which is to use the light of our search to illuminate the wall in all its beauty – and in all its flaws. And in so doing better understand the world around us.

    I’m partial to Marcus Cole:

You know, I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn’t it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

Nice to see some Bab 5 nerds come out of the woodwork. I do miss G’kar and Londo’s bromance and Ivanova’s frankness sometimes; perhaps it’s time I opened my archives and did some binge-watching.

  8. chigau (違う) says

Captain Susan Ivanova: At least it tells us they understand our language. They’re just not willing to speak to us in it.
Marcus Cole: Who knew they were French.

  9. Victorious Parasol says

Commander Sinclair: This is Mr. Harris. He’s an atheist. Father Cresanti, a Roman Catholic. Mr. Hayakawa, a Zen Buddhist. Mr. Rashid, a Moslem. Mr. Rosenthal, an Orthodox Jew. Running Elk, of the Oglala Sioux faith. Father Papapoulous, a Greek Orthodox. Ogigi-ko, of the Ebo tribe. Machukiak, y Yupik Eskimo. Sawa, of the Jivaro tribe. Isnakuma, a Bantu. Ms. Chang, a Taoist. Mr. Blacksmith, an aborigine. Ms. Yamamoto, a Shinto. Ms. Naijo, a Maori. Mr. Gold, a Hindu.

  10. GiantPanda says

No dictator, no invader, can hold an imprisoned population by the force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power governments, and tyrants, and armies can not stand.

  11. Crimson Clupeidae says

One of my favorite lines comes early in season one, wherein Londo refers to Vir as ” You moon faced assassin of joy.”

Vir wound up being one of my favorite characters. Love that series, and as soon as I’m done with BSG (watching it with my wife), we’re going to go through all the DVDs for B5 again. :)
