    Sick, exasperated, tired, overloaded.

Sorry to hear that, PZ – hope you feel better soon, but don’t come back before you’re ready!

As the local tea snob round these parts*, I am happy to pass on a $10 cup of tea and a 10 cent oreo. Heaven awaits.

See you when fatigue eases, exasperation subsides, and your adaptive immune system, umm, adapts? That’s not it.

In any case, see you soon, I hope. In the meantime, have a hanky.

For FFS, PZ, you need to learn to delegate!!!!

Burnout is real and many of us have been there, sometimes quite often. You learn after a while just how destructive it is and avoid it any way you can.

Find some cobloggers or substitutes if you can. A lot of FTB people are erudite, entertaining, and/or knowledgeable writers.

I know you tried that with Chris Clarke and that actually worked. He had different interests but so do your readers. It’s unfortunate he moved but the world is a big place.

  7. carlie says

So sorry, PZ. We’ll wait patiently and nicely until you feel better. :)

Crip Dyke – so glad you said that, because this morning I’ve been alternately moaning over the fact that I’m drinking the last of my rose tea and chiding myself for caring so much. ;) (I can get more, but not for two weeks until next payday! And there’s only the not-nearly-as-good earl grey creme to drink in the meantime!)

  8. borax says

Piping hot cup of earl grey with a generous splash of bourbon, followed by a warm shower; that fixes everything. Hope you feel better.

You’re not fooling me, PZ. You’re just moving to your lair inside the hollow volcano to further your plan of World Domination, aren’t you?

    So… (looks around) ….
What is everyone doing today while PZ is at rest? Shall we make a golden idol, or something?

  13. Ogvorbis: Broken, failing, hurting. says

    marcoli:

What is everyone doing today while PZ is at rest?

Arguing with myself, arguing with a computer, arguing with a printer, threatening a computer, trying to do my job, pleading with a computer, failing.

    marcoli

What is everyone doing today while PZ is at rest?

Data analysis, planning 53 days of experiments (and taking the existence of holidays into account), trying to figure out where I’m going to come up with $41,000, trying to figure out if I will qualify next year for food stamps and unemployment, trying to talk the proud/stupid part of my brain into accepting the fact that I’ll be on Medicaid next year.

    You know, the usual.

    @Raven, #13:

For FFS, PZ, you need to learn to delegate!!!!

:whisper: Raven, a large part of the “exasperation” aspect of this is the frustration of PZ’s attempts to delegate. I’m not sure criticizing him for not delegating is helpful just now… :/whisper:

  16. Crip Dyke, Right Reverend Feminist FuckToy of Death & Her Handmaiden says

    @marcoli:

I say we go with the traditional “golden kaf”. My youngest just predicted the spelling by sounding out that 2nd part last night, so she can be in charge of the inscription.

  17. Patrick says

Look after yourself for your own sake, and may I recommend one of Islay’s fine malts as a restorative.

Didn’t think of that although I did know it.

In all seriousness, burnout is real and to be avoided at all costs.

I’m sure we’ve all been there before. We live in a fast moving complicated society that puts huge demands on our time and effort.

Some cobloggers or guest slots would probably help a lot.

  19. Dick the Damned says

It sounds like your cat needs to look after you.

Take care, & only when you’re ready, come back & fight the good fights.

  20. opposablethumbs says

Hope you feel better soon, PZed. Wishing you plenty of restorative rest and a reduction in exasperation if possible.

Hey, are we allowed to send hugs to the Grand High Poopyhead and Squidly Overlord? Sending some in case.

  21. lorn says

Relax, turn off the clock radio and cell phone, have a cup of tea, with a touch of honey, or bourbon, followed by long, warm sleep of indefinite duration. It’ll do you good.

  22. Menyambal --- inesteemable says

Good job, PZ. Thanks for taking care of yourself.

Me, I shoulda, but a job came open. It was a challenge, but I did it, aching shoulders, sore feet and sleepy eyes, and all. I shoulda stayed home.

    Smart man, PZ.

  23. Stacy says

    Feel better, PZ.

I hope you’re back soon. But not before you’re ready. (No, really, I can handle the Pharyngula withdrawal symptoms.)

  25. catlover says

PZ — Do please get well soon, and take care of yourself. Chicken soup and a nice loong hot shower should help. And sleep, blissful sleep “that knits up the raveled sleave of care”. Take as much time as you need — we’ll wait patiently for your return.
