I think I recognized all the references…

But I don’t think I’ve watched The Simpsons in a few years! Maybe I should tune in for Treehouse of Horror XXIV.

Watch it. Just for fun. And how often do any of us really have fun? Real fun. Just for fun’s sake?

That’s the best thing I’ve seen on the Halloween show in years. Maybe the best thing on The Simpsons these last few seasons.

It astounds me how they can get ever more creative and complex even after 20+ years of the same show.

Wow…Lovecraft, Poe, King, THE HYPNOTOAD ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD, so much stuff. You’d have to watch it a dozen times just to pick them all up.

Haven’t watched the show in…ten years? Twelve? Not sure. I do have a couple of iTunes collections of Treehouse of Horror episodes.

I am updating the flash plugin so I cannot watch it at the moment, but maybe that is a good thing, I am not sure I really want to. It might be funny, but I have pretty low hopes. I love the early Simpsons, and still laugh at them, but I have not watched it regularly for since season 10 or 11 (though I have watched up to season 20, I had a lot of time one summer a few years ago and systematically watched them all). I just found there were too many episodes where I sat without a single laugh or even a chuckle, episode after episode where I where I would sit and see where the writers made “jokes” but found them to be tired and predictable. I am afraid that at this time I do not trust the writers to come up with something that is actually good.

All credit goes to Guillermo del Toro for this “masterpiece” short. The episode itself remains to be seen. Here’s hopin’!

Ok… the opening by Guillermo del Toro was nice, but seriously: the episode was just awful. Not even Family Guy can make this many jokes fall flat.

They didn’t do anything creative here, Guillermo did. The Simpsons writers then took over after this intro finished, and I’m sure they simply pushed out the same old silliness-by-numbers routine they have done for something like a decade now.

I’m amazed that there are people that actually held any hope that this episode would be any different to the usual dreck.

Also, after watching the annotated version, holy shit Guillermo loves referencing himself. Add to this the several references to The Simpsons, and what we are left with is something like 50% self-reference.

I was not at all impressed with the episode. The Freaks part, in particular, was just straight replay, not even homage.

I’ll join in on the Simpson’s bashing here. The show has been coasting for c. 10 years and is now painful to watch. Of course it is still on the air because of all the lucre that flows in.
