This is our why our politics are fucked. You can always rely on the public having the memory of the gnat, you can rely on Republicans to buy the most paper thin of excuses for the in-group, and you can rely on the fact that a Democrat competing with even the slimiest thug will be too cowardly to point out the long trail of victims and the thick layer of goo. It is trivial to rewrite even the most recent of histories in our current political climate as the result of a credulous public, exploitative politicians, and a media that is various combinations of disingenuous and incompetent.

Most entertaining video I have seen in a long time, if I don’t stop to thing about the sad realities he is elucidating. Get this guy a national show!
He deserved to be booted for the illegal actions he took to cover up the affair, but as for the original sin (an affair) I don’t think he deserved to be listed with the racists, sexists, and homophobes listed in the video.
As far as I’m concerned a politician’s personal life is next to irrelevant, I don’t want to see or hear about their spouse, kids, affairs, work out routines, taste in music, or parties. I don’t even know the name of the wife of the Canadian PM and that’s the way I like it.

To be fair, the Confederate flag no longer flies atop the state house. It has it’s own ~special~, well lit memorial on the state house grounds. Otherwise, he’s pretty spot on. sighIt’s so hard to be from South Carolina.

There’s a reason why people refer to South Carolina politics as the most fucked up in the country.
We just witnessed one of the most politically incestual races in history.
It’s hard to really recount all the insane details of everything that went on down here to people not in the state.
Elizabeth Cobert-Busch even tried her hardest to play to the right wing down here, but the D next to her name doomed her.
But there is some small amount of hope because she did get some endorsements from traditionally right wing institutions like the Charleston Post and Courier and did fairly well leading up to the election.
unfortunately, the election is all that matters.

Oh holy FSM. That is perfect. Can we please have a letter campaign to get Mr. Fugelsang to make one for Texas? Texas is just begging for one of these: Rick Perry, Louie Gohmert, Ted Cruz. They have their share of a**hole politicians that make the state “proud” plus low rankings in health care, poverty, so on.

I suppose that if Ted Kennedy’s career could survive Chappaquiddick, Mark Sanford’s career can survive this scandal. But the Chappaquiddick scandal did ruin his chances for the Presidency, and Ted Kennedy contented himself with being a Senator for the rest of his life.

With that fast patter, it’s not too surprising that he would stumble over a word. Yes, Thormond was a segregationist. He ran for PotUS in 1948 as a Dixiecrat and switched to the Republicans because Democrats were becoming too liberal and supportive of civil rights. He filibustered against the 1957 Civil Rights Act and voted against civil rights legislation in 1964 and 1965.
Shortly after his death in 2003, it was revealed that when he was 22, he fathered a daughter, Essie Mae Washington-Williams, with the family maid who was 16 at the time.
