Fleeing Minnesota for California, briefly

It’s been miserably slushy and cold out here in Minnesota, hardly any spring at all — I have serious concerns that my incoming shipment of fertilized chicken eggs for my development course may not survive the journey. We may still be below freezing up to the last week of the semester! So it’s good news that I’m escaping at the last day of classes to go to Southern California for the Orange County Freethought Alliance Annual Conference on 3-4 May.

They aren’t predicting any blizzards down there, are they? I’ve gone through two in the last two weeks, and I’m ready to have them stop.

Also, I’m scheduled to appear on the Michael Slate Show on KPFK radio at 10am that Friday morning. We’re threatening to pollute the airwaves with talk of unabashed godlessness.

You do, of course, realize that, after having spent time in the warmth of the Southwest, that, upon return to Minus-sota, you will freeze your arse off? Or it will at least feel that way?

Wrong. I expect to emerge from the plane in LA like the evil frozen undead at the end of last season’s Game of Thrones, point my sword in the direction of the beach, and have a wave of chill blue-eyed wights lurch forward to reduce southern California to an icy wasteland.

    PZ:

has anyone ever told you that you are evil?

Now, if you did that to LAX, I would applaud. Vociferously.

This is beautiful. :wipes away a tear:

    Winter is coming, California.

PZ and CC in the same room!
    Somebody take pictures!

*Checks admission fee* Yeesh. Given that I’d have to break in to the conference in order to attend, I think those would be admissible in court. PZ, perhaps we could grab a beer offsite during a slow part of the event.

We in the northern part of Californiateros welcome the frozen undead lord and wish him good speed in making the south an icy wasteland. We’ll man The Wall at the Tehatchapis to prevent the southerns from invading and to keep them from stealing our waters (or, at least, more of it).

If you want to escape winter in MN why would you bring it with you?
Temps are warming here in Virginia, and it couldn’t come soon enough for me! Our last snow was only a bit over a week ago, yuck.

Yes: We should have a Pharyngula meetup sometime while I’m there. Friday evening? I think they’ve got me talking late on Saturday.

SoCal natives, what’s near the Fullerton HoJo?

  9. Stacy says

Hey, PZ, why don’t you stay over on Sunday, long enough to come to Hollywood for AmyJo Mattheis’s lecture at CFI-LA? Her talk’s called Jesus, An Atheist, and a Woman Walk into a Bar…

Also, Your Squiddliness, I hope you come to jabber at us after your book comes out. I believe the Great Panjandrums have contacted you and are awaiting reply.

Anything special about the eggs? If they are just run of the mill eggs, and yours freeze, send me a note. I can probably send some along since my hens are laying way more than we can eat at the moment. If you need more than I have, I can’t be the only reader with birds…

Sorry, but I’ll be vacationing in Southern Ireland that weekend.

This place is a bit less than three miles up the road.

Less that 400 miles from me.

Maybe I can make it. Sure would be fun to try!

Best thing about that location is that it’s *not* that close to Disneyline. I would definitely buy a round at that place.
