Party like it’s 1,000,000 comments

Even though it’s actually 1,037,696 comments on ScienceBlogs right now, and they’re a little slow, the New Yorkers are finally getting it together for a big shindig in the Big Apple. If you’re somewhere near Manhattan on 7 October, stop by and party with the nerds.

Well I’ll be somewhere near, but doubt I will brave the necessary LIRR/subway trip on a Tuesday night. Have fun, nerds!

yeesh, looks a bit sketchy there (I love streetview). But perhaps I can go. How fast does a 600 dollar bar tab disappear? Will you be joining the festivities PZ?

Well, there must be a Gawd… and He politely loathes me. I’ve got a bunch of family coming into town on the 7th. That bastard, Gawd, never let’s me go to parties.

Have fun, New Yorkers. I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray.

??? The Official Commentometer on my display reads 1,019,360 – are there another stealth 26K comments available only to the Inside Traders?

Maybe you should aim for having 1 Megacomment, like 1 Megabyte – 2^20 comments rather than 10^6. That way the timing is about right, you can aim for 1048576 comments on the 7th.

Arguably, that would be a mebicomment rather than a megacomment depending on whether you value standards or tradition. I know they sound icky, but I like the IEC binary versions, so I’ve started to use MiB, GiB, etc. in writing, but say “megabyte” rather than “mebibyte”. I hope they catch on.

Just out of curiosity; was the name of the millionth poster listed anywhere? I assume s/he lives in or near NY, since that’s where the party is. And–alas–I live too far away :(
