    Anyone dig Apocalyptica? They will be in Minneapolis April 26th. For those not in the know, they are a quartet of celloists that started out covering Metallica songs on the cellos (truly amazing stuff) and later covered other great metal bands on their cellos. They now just create tons of their own material.

    I vote this a place for MN Pharyngula people to show up. They have the option of balcony seating with a meal or general admission. I wanted to do balcony seating, but my friends are all general admission, so that is where I will be.

    Isn’t every day PharynguFest at your house?

    I’m not jealous because I got to see Neil Shubin speak at the National Library and Archives here yesterday. Excellent speaker. Also fun to see the cast and model of Tiktaalik up close. I’m looking forward to seeing the real things when turn up at the Museum of Nature here when Shubin’s lab has finished their work on them.

    Town Hall Brewery for Saturday Night? If we organize it will they come?

    Saturday Night the American Atheist Conference will break out for a dinner, and I am not planning on attending. So, if enough people are game for Town Hall Brewery (homebrewed ales, beers and porters are very tasty there) I can advertise a Pharyngufest through facebook and try to get some people there.

    Town Hall can fill up on a Saturday night pretty quickly in the Pub, so perhaps if we can set aside a few tables in the restaurant we could accommodate more people.

    Oh, here’s some more jealousy for ya’s all. I saw Neil Shubin speak in Ottawa yesterday afternoon, to a little group of 25 or so of us. I also met him and had a little chat, and he signed my book :) Oh yeah.

    PZ, Town Hall Brewery is a hop, skip, and a jump from the U of MN Twin Cities on the West Bank on Washington Ave.

    I think we should organize it, I can probably convince my godless lady friend to come too.

    Count in two more for Saturday night. Although if PZ is jonesing for an Old World pub, the Local is a better choice. It’s also just a few blocks down Nicollet Mall from the Marriott. Not that Town Hall isn’t a great place; it’s just a half-hour walk from the conference. Cheap cab, though. Their regular beers are decent, and all their special brews I’ve had were lovely. They also have a nice selection of imports and food that’s a notch or two above standard pub fare.

    MAJeff, one goes to First Ave neither to eat nor to talk. One goes for the music, to watch the dust dripping from the ceiling, and to test one’s sobriety by navigating the bathroom stalls. It’s one of my favorite places, but it’s really not civilized. It’s never gotten over being a Greyhound depot.

    Never been to First Ave. Tended to spend my time around the corner at The Saloon.

    I’d be happy to show up. It’s just that, well, I’m joining the Dawkins foundation people for dinner that night first…I could promise to stroll over as soon as that is done, though, and closer is better. The Local sounds like a good idea; I might also be able to talk some of the RDF gang into joining us, too.

    Okay, I am swayed towards The Local due to logistics and access to the American Atheists conference attendees. I have never been there, but I have been to the one in St. Paul and I was satisfied.

    (psst, PZ, at the dinner with RDF could you put in a good word for the Beagle Project? Karen James has told me she hasn’t had much luck getting grant money from them.)

    Actually, if it’s any consolation, I don’t think the bachelorette parties have taken over The Saloon yet. I’m pretty sure they still flood the 90’s.
