London Howlerfest

We had a big crowd yesterday—20 or more people showed up at the Natural History Museum for our London Howlerfest. We spent a few hours strolling through the museum, a few more hours at a nearby pub (I don’t recall the name of the pub, but I do remember London Pride, Wildcat, and Wicked Witch), and few hours at a nearby restaurant. I don’t recall the names of all the people that I met there (which makes the fact that I only remember what I was drinking even more embarrassing), but I did take pictures. Browse the collection below the fold, and do me a favor—if you were there, name the people, and ‘fess up if you were one of them. I apologize if you aren’t in any of these, and should be; Larry Moran also took pictures, so I’m hoping that between us we’ll have everyone.

PZ, I don’t quite know how to put this – but your links are broken. The thumbnails are there but the full size photos are missing.

  2. G. Tingey says

I can’t get the photos to re-open (even in “New window”).

But it looks a bit like the Anglesea Arms to me ……

    Oh yes – “Howlerfest”?
    Will someone please explain?

  3. says

Sounds like a great time. Wish I’d been able to make it; it’s always cool to meet like minds. Sadly friends’ birthdays have a certain priority… Ah well, next time.

  4. Robin Levett says

But it looks a bit like the Anglesea Arms to me

It was the Hoop and Toy.

    Oh yes – “Howlerfest”?

It’s a long story – but it derives from the description of (evoluionist) denizens of talk.origins as a load of howler monkeys jumping up and down howling and throwing excrement from the trees at creationist intruders – you can guess which side of the aisle the description came from.

I can’t get the thumbnails to go anywhere, either. BUt some of the people are clear. The woman in the stripey orange and brown top was called, I think, Louise Johnson (not sure of the spelling); the guy in the blue shirt in photo 12 was Tom Morris; I’m the bald one in the check shirt.

and the number goes from 1…whatever not 01…infinity

have seen all of them. wish we would see more of your stroll through london itself. And drawin looks kinda stiff all the way. What`s the matter with him?

  7. says

Thanks for the invite to the Howlerfest. It was great to meet everyone and enjoy the beer. Let’s hope there are more to come in London.

I believe it was the Inimitable One, Ted Holden, who actually came up with that description.

Hi – Rick Desper here. I’m in “at the Pub 9” talking with Robin. I wasn’t anywhere near as blitzed as I appear to be in that picture. (I wonder how I achieved that facial expression?) Was glad to meet PZ, Larry, Robin and everybody else yesterday.

  10. Toivo says

    Hi!

I’m the guy with a brown coat, a white sweater and a backpack. (In pictures 5,6,7). I’ve been reading this illuminating blog for about a year now. Nice meeting you all!

  11. Dave Godfrey says

I’m in 2,3,10,11 and 12. The short long-haired gut in denim.

The pub is the “Hoop And Toy”, a popular haunt with museum workers.

  12. says

Sorry about the bad links — they’re fixed now. I rushed it into place, and then zipped off to a little town called Downe, where I’ve been all day with no access to the net.

Don’t worry about that photo, Rick; it’s “At the pub 2” that really shows off the expression to best advantage;-)

I can’t see any long-haired guts in any of the photos…

Here are some pictures of beer. Were any of these on the menu?

Only toward the very end of the evening…

BTW, since Kate hasn’t owned up yet, she is the blonde lady sat to Larry’s right in the pub and my left in the restaurant.
