The unauthorized autobiography of George W. Bush

I get a lot of mail from publishers, and this one had me going for a moment…one thing I don’t get is much mail from right-wing sources (other than the usual excoriations, of course.) This one looks so much like authentic Republican PR that it took a moment for it to sink in.

Speaking from the heart, not from the brain, this legendary Commander-in-Chief takes us on a journey through his momentous life. The great man we hear here displays his mother’s steely resolve and vindictive temper, his father’s keen mastery of language, and his own unique gift of deciding.

That’s a work of genius…satire that sneaks up on you. I almost trashed it before I realized what it was.

Don’t miss the movie! I may have to buy the book.

    Jesus that movie was hysterical!

The 9/11 bullhorn shot made me perform a spit take.

Here’s a better link for the Jesus sports statues. It has more examples (the golf statue is creepy!) and you don’t have to detour through the execrable poem on my blog.

First time I’ve ever seen someone anti-blogwhore here, Zeno :).

I like how in even in the Amazon link it’s not immediately obvious that the book is going to be written by Scott Dikkers (of Onion and Jim’s Journal fame)

I’m always the serious guys in these discussions, aren’t I? Just call me “Wet Blanket MikeM”, I guess.

I think the Supreme Court will end up knocking down most of this. At least, I hope they do. Scalia might be the only holdout, but you never know.

By the way, PZ, that was pretty doggone funny, but as the father of a 9 year old and a 12 year old, I keep thinking what our invasion of Iraq (and is Iran next? North Korea?) means to my kids, even funny stuff just ends up making me sad.

  6. JamesR says

This couldn’t be any funnier except if it was a musical. It really is sad to note that we laugh at this idiot only to realize that he is President of the U.S.

  7. Barry says

I gotta say, a draft is unlikely, unless things have gotten to a point where today looks like a liberal paradise.

The GOP parents don’t want their sons in Bush’s wars any more than liberal parents do; if their real patriotism lived up to their magnetic ribbon stickers, the Army would have no trouble meeting recruiting goals. And, given the increasing cynicism of today, and the legacy of Vietnam, I personally don’t think that a spare-the-middle-class draft could work. For Vietnam, the working class got drafted quite heavily – that’d be blasting the core GOP support base, in a way which would be immediately painful.

  8. says

Bringing back the draft is an empty threat since no country on earth has enough money to field mass armies on the scale of WWII. It costs a fortune to train and equip a single soldier. The rate limiting quantity here is dough, not cannon fodder.

    1) When has a lack of funds ever stopped the neocons?

    2) What about the scale of Vietnam? That draft did plenty of damage despite the war not being anywhere near the scale of WWII.

  10. says

There’s no way they’ll institute a draft just for Iran. The US military is built around a volunteer force in terms of training and strategic and tactical doctrines. If, however, someone’s irresponsible enough to begin World War Three, then count on universal conscription.

if their real patriotism lived up to their magnetic ribbon stickers

On that note, let me share this youtube offering. Awesomely funny. (If you purchase the video, part of the proceeds go to Iraq Veterans Against the War, too).

  12. Caledonian says

The US military is built around a volunteer force in terms of training and strategic and tactical doctrines.

Ah, but that’s the point, Mr. Levy – even I know that the US military is also centered around the idea of not doing grossly stupid tactical and strategic things. Yet we invaded Iraq nevertheless. I also don’t believe that the military is happy with the way things are being run in Iraq, but they have little choice but to go along.

If the military is forced to accept draftees, it will accept draftees. Reason has nothing to do with it.

  13. Chris says

I gotta say, a draft is unlikely, unless things have gotten to a point where today looks like a liberal paradise.

And how does the summer of 2001 look to you right now? No enemy combatants, no torture, no threats to imprison journalists, no arbitrary wars of aggression and only a few people knew that a Republican congressman was sexually harassing House pages.

Given what the Bush-led Republican Party has done to this country and the world in five years, I don’t really want to see what they’re going to do in another two and a half.

  14. says

I wasn’t fooled. Everyone knows that the real Bush biography will be entitled Strategy for Strategery.

The “mission” yet to be “accomplished” will be detailed in this definitive book, when George and Jebus publicly admit their special relationship, and George suddenly and conveniently changes his mind on the issue of gay marriage. (Poor Barbara.)

  15. says

I nearly split a gut on that one. Too damned funny! The “movie” was particularly inspired. Great PhotoShop work too whoever did that. Notice the attention paid to the lighting of “Jesus” to match the lighting in the photos. Well done.
