I’ll balance up eddie’s comment with an “I quite like it”. Although it’s ridiculously overpriced where I live and (for me) has none of the supposed pharmacological benefits.

So, if you’re still standing there waiting for advice – drink it.

Neither caffeine nor sugar particularly interest me in a drink, so I can’t help you there. A glass of simple soda water can fix your thirst without making your heart race all night. My supermarket sells it for 99 cents a quart bottle.

I’m a bit of a caffeine addict but try to cut myself off by 6pm or so. Even still, I know a lot of the reason I have such a hard time getting out of bed in the morning is that I now need coffee to be “normal”; our bodies adjust to caffeine levels quite quickly (I’d dig for a study to link if I was on my laptop instead of my phone).

Regarding energy drinks, they do have their place but I avoid them as a general rule. I was just back in school and they occasionally helped when I had a deadline. I don’t really like RedBull, though, and preferred Rockstar.

    @ lofty #2,

One problem with anything carbonated is that the CO2 acidifies the drink, messing with your teeth. Anyone prone to cavities should be careful. Lately I’ve been trying to wean myself off of (diet) softdrinks, with moderate success.

arghh- I had a co worker that used to drink one or two of those after big night at the pub as a pick me up next morning. I could smell em across the room, and it was enough to turn my equally hungover stomach. It was like a really nasty medicinal type glucose stench….
Did you end up drinking it?

It’s quite sweet, meaning it pairs well with rum. And THAT means that, like Spanish coffee, it makes a drink that allows you to get quite stupid without the mitigating factor of falling asleep before you can do much damage. I speak from personal experience, which leads me to never want to drink a Red Bull again. Hopefully, YMMV.
