Pitchforks And Torches (The Trump 2016 Drinking Song)

It’s pitchforks and torches and “throw the bums out!”
We’ll go to the rallies; we’ll all scream and shout;
The new revolution is coming to town
And we’ll tear it to pieces and burn it all down!

We’re ready for action; we’re ready for fights
We’re ready to march and stand up for our rights
We’re finished with people ignoring us whites
So we’re taking our country by force!
With that socialist president square in our sights
The government has to change course!

And it’s pitchforks and torches and “throw the bums out!”
We’ll go to the rallies; we’ll all scream and shout;
The new revolution is coming to town
And we’ll tear it to pieces and burn it all down!

American patriots, come one and come all
The time has arrived—will you answer the call?
We need lots of help, cos we’re building a wall;
A monument meant for the ages!
We’ll build it so wide and we’ll build it so tall
And we’ll build it at minimum wages!

And it’s pitchforks and torches and “throw the bums out!”
We’ll go to the rallies; we’ll all scream and shout;
The new revolution is coming to town
And we’ll tear it to pieces and burn it all down!

Unemployment is down, and our taxes are low
We’ve got our new health care, so that’s got to go,
We may not be schooled, but there’s one thing we know
That the government’s worse than a cancer!
So we’ll vote in a bigot who’s rolling in dough,
Cos a billionaire must have the answer!

And it’s pitchforks and torches and “throw the bums out!”
We’ll go to the rallies; we’ll all scream and shout;
The new revolution is coming to town
And we’ll tear it to pieces and burn it all down!

In a brisk 6/8; it would have an Irish feel to it, if that weren’t unAmerican, with bouzouki and penny whistle. The chorus is nearly shouted, more so as the verses go by. Which reminds me, we need more verses if it’s to be a proper drinking song.

That’s what comments are for…

    See if you can get Troy Donockley to play it for you. He is an expert on both of those instruments. (He is currently on tour with Nightwish, and I have tickets for next week’s performance in Colorado Springs.)

  2. fusilier says

    You are in New England, right? I’d suggest getting the Dropkick Murphys to cover it.

    Nothing tops a punk bagpipe band.

    I just can’t come up with any verses in that meter, when the opening lines keep sending my mind to “My Favorite Things”…

  4. purrs says

    As immersed in the world of Mary Poppins theatre as I am right now, my brain instantly set your title to the tune of “Brimstone and Treacle”.

    Pitchforks and torches (…and carbolic soap…?)
    These are the tools of our trade
    With people like Bernie we don’t have a hope
    Of seeing *our* changes are made

    When lib’ruls are chronic
    The Trump is the tonic
    That’s certain to wipe off their smirk
    So roar out with passion in bigoted fashion
    Pitchforks and torches will work!

    Trump supporters as the Holy Terror. How appropriate.

    Pierce @#4– the meter for the verses is actually (It wasn’t originally, but it kept banging on the door and asking) the same as “the times, they are a-changin'”. If that helps.

    Purrs–that is delightful!

    Others–I might be able to drum up or drink up the courage to ask someone to cover it, but frankly the tune keeps changing in my own head, so they’d not so much be “covering” as “setting to music”. And that is probably more than I would be able to ask of anyone askable.

  6. Numenaster says

    We’re angry and sullen and ready for war,
    Though we can’t describe just what we’re fighting for.
    Our dream is to have just a little bit more
    Than the people we’re all so afraid of.
    We’ve got you outnumbered, so—down on the floor!
    And we’ll show you what we are made of!
