If corporations

From Mrs. Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian.

If corporations had to tithe 10% of their income to every religion they claim to follow, they’d quickly petition the Supreme Court to stop calling them people.

I doubt it; I think it would be just another cost of doing business.

(And tithing is supposed to be voluntary)

The Mormons require tithing from every church member “in good standing.” A non-tithing Mormon cannot go to the Temple, cannot get married in the church, and various other penalties which, for Mormons, are a big deal.

Nah. Corporations donate to politicians and political parties (read: buy and bribe them) in order to get them to obey or agree with them. Religions already do.

John, following all their religious precepts is supposed to be voluntary. Religion itself is voluntary (In certain countries. For now.)

    What’s your point?

Catholics can masturbate. They can choose to have premarital sex or divorce. They can skip confession. They can eat fish on Fridays and even stop being Catholic.

The only punishment for sin is hell and according to the Bible, you go to hell if you do not tithe.

If they are going to insist on exceptions due to religious convictions I think they should have to accept responsibilities based on them as well. After all, “sincerely held” is the bar they must reach. They need to pony up that tithe if they are truly sincere.

Catholics don’t have to tithe. Therefore putative Catholic corporations would not have to tithe.

Catholics (and many other “Christians”) don’t *have* to tithe, but according to the alleged instructions from the one they profess to believe in, they *should* do a lot more than that. Namely ” If you will be perfect, go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.”
