Have a red panda.

Have I ever told you about the evening the male red panda somehow went for walkies and ended up lounging in the smaller (and fortunately empty) outdoor gorilla enclosure? Yes I probably did.

    I always thought those looked like foxes trying to fool everyone. “No fox here! Just a nice panda! I’m just eating leaves!”

    I really adore red pandas. It’s a truth universally acknowledged that I love red pandas. You never told me about the red panda taking a walk to visit the gorilla enclosure. Now I want to know more than anything. And did the panda take your hand in its paw when you walked it home?

    Gorillas are peaceful and unaggressive, so the panda would probably have suffered no harm if the gorilla had been around.

    No, that’s not quite true. Gorillas can be aggressive, especially when nervous or alarmed. It certainly wasn’t an experiment anyone at the zoo wanted or intended to make.

    Read somewhere that the closest relatives of pandas are racoons. The red panda’s appearance kind of attests to that.

    You most certainly have not told me, for one, about the red panda going for walkies to the gorilla enclosure. Spill, lady.

    @carlie, #1:

    I can see it now: Fox??? What are you doing over there with your predatory gaze fixed on the chicken hutch?

    Bite your tongue! I’m the red panda guarding the hen house. Now you run along and get a good night’s sleep.
