Obama isn’t trying to destroy religion…

I AM.

Come on, Republicans. Give credit where credit is due.

The more I think about it, the more I think this could be a great ad campaign. Slap “Obama isn’t trying to destroy religion; we are” on a billboard and see the flood of media attention you get. Sounds like it’s right up the ally of those firebrands at American Atheists – wink nudge, Dave Silverman.

No, that’s a great idea if all we were arguing for were the falseness of faith-based religions but we are also arguing for political secularism and in those fights the message that we are trying to destroy religion rather than merely constrain its influence over government by fair laws is disastrously counter-productive.

Actually, I think different voices within our movement can work. The message would need some subtitle explaining we want to convince in stead of just convert though.

Speaking of different voices: I quite liked the last Bill Maher’s real time. I know he can be a misogynist, but I actually think he was doing well this show attacking the anti-contraception stand of those *censored*.
And I was actually loving the things Al Sharpton said…

“Obama isn’t trying to destroy religion; I AM – by rational discussion and persuasion.” Safe enough? Mind you, pedantry has sucked out punch.

If I lived in ‘Murica I’d totally make that a bumper sticker and put it on my car. But I don’t, so I’d just confuse people. Which is also good.
