You guys are amazing – TAM goal reached!

It was brought to my attention that the ChipIn widget wasn’t updating, but it doesn’t matter – you guys obliterated my goal! I went to bed soon after making the fundraising post at 2:30am, and upon waking up at 10:30am you all had donated $1,562.

Holy fuckballs.

I’m seriously tearing up. I put a low goal for fundraising since I felt guilty enough asking, and thought maybe I could raise a couple hundred bucks, hoping that any little bit would help. Now I feel bad for underestimating the generosity of effectively strangers. It’s moderately terrifying to imagine what would happen if that post went up now, instead of in the middle of the night.

I took the ChipIn widget down since I now have plenty of money for TAM. Like I said, anyone who donated $50 or more will get an autographed copy of The Atheist’s Guide to Christmas once the American version (with me!) comes out in November. I’ll use some of this extra money to defray the cost of buying and shipping books. And any money that’s remaining after that I’ll donate to the Secular Student Alliance to start off my Blogathon charity fundraiser in July.

If you still want to donate out of the goodness of your heart and to support this blog, I’ve added a PayPal button in the right column. But more importantly, THANK YOU! I seriously can’t express how appreciative I am. Maybe size 60 font and animated sparkles would get the point across, but I’ll spare you. Seriously, you all have only confirmed that I have the most wonderful readers ever! I love you guys .

Now if you excuse me, I’m going to go dance around naked. Weeeeeee!

Soooo, does you dancing around naked mean we should keep a weather eye out for earthquakes today?

F1r57! ;)Congrats! Personally I’d thought a little like you, and so I’m mildly surprised (‘though I’d great hopes in the community). So – have a nice time out there! The money isn’t something you’ve to worry about at this time ;)

I am SO not surprised you hit your goal so soon! More power to ya!I think your plan to donate any excess to Secular Student Alliance is inspired. Thanks so much!

  4. Metal_Warrior says

Damn, you’re the f1r57 ;)Reports from Isny (Baden-Württemberg): Weather fine (sun’s out and I’m sweating like a whale on a beach) and no quakes at the moment – I’ll report changes immediately ;)

Damn, I could have saved my ten bucks :p Treat yourself to a soda on your flight there, then. And on the subject of Blogathon, it sounds like something fun to do, but my blog doesn’t have any regular readers. You have any tips on how to get people to sponsor you?

  6. Treelobsters says

I wondered what happened there. The widget disappeared right after I donated. :-)

  7. Terri says

I’m so happy for you! You are truly appreciated by your readers. I find your humility touching as well.

Holy Crap! That was fast. I think it’s about time I start my own blog *rubs his hands*Congrats and hope you have fun at TAM!

  9. says

Well, I didn’t even know about this, or I would have sent a few bucks. They’d be Canadian dollars, but I guess they still count. I’ll make a donation over the next couple weeks, and make an additional one for Blogathon.

That’s amazing. When you’re Lord Protectress of the World, could you organise an internet payment system that does not involve bank accounts and credit cards at all? (I don’t care how vehemently they claim to be secure, I simply don’t trust them; money leaves my bank accounts only on presentation of my ugly mug at the counter.) The mobile-phone people can do it, when you buy a card from the newsagent for dead-trees money and then read off a zekret number, the same principle ought to work here.

I’m keeping my word about giving you a nights worth of my tips. P.S. I’ll wear an awesome boob shirt in your honor. Perhaps it will increase my chances at having an excellent tip night. It’s for a good scientific cause after all. :)

See, you should have done the nekkid dancing first, as it would have probably upped your take by an order of magnitude. You could have skipped a plane ticket and driven a new car to TAM.

  13. AndyC says

And I hope when you make it to the big time you’re able to help the next generation of people who stop and make us think to do sometihng worthwile!

  14. Cody says

Don’t forget to post your presentation (or what portions they will let you) for those of us who cannot just take a random weekend off in vegas.

Glad you made your goal, but not surprised! Kick butt @ TAM. :) I’ll also donate a few bucks to your site, cos it’s full of awesome.
