Caine, a member of FtB, lost her battle with cancer this week.
Honestly, I mainly knew her through the back channel. I knew she had cancer, but I didn’t realize how severe it was.
I feel for her many friends and followers I also feel sad that I will never get to know her better, or ever get to meet her in person. That opportunity is gone.
Humans are fortunate, in that we appear to be the only animals on Earth that can perceive and appreciate the universe. Our advances in medicine and science have extended our lifespans. Still, at least for this week, it feels like there’s never enough time. So I’ll try to make the most of the time I do have. However long that is.
Good. Absolutely do so. I lost my wife to cancer almost two years ago now. She was only 38. One of the challenges for me now has been in deciding how to spend my limited time and resources. This year included getting season tickets to Chicago Red Stars matches, which has involved travelling by some place named Bolingbrook on I-55 quite a number of times and even once staying in a somewhat run-down Super 8 just outside of Bolingbrook (technically in Romeoville). It’s been fun. I probably won’t get season tickets again (not unless I move closer to Chicagoland first), but I’m glad I did it once.
There is never enough time for any of us. That is truth.
Truth indeed.
The world could have done with Caine for one sticking around a lot longer in it. (& dare I say Cheney, Trump, Putin and some others a lot less – the ethical unfairness of cancer and death being another proof for there not being any god or justice save those we make for ourselves.)
Caine was a truly good strong, intelligent, kind and fierce person. One of our species best.
My condolences to her friends and family. She is very much missed and has left behind an awesome legacy and set of memories and made, I don’t know how many but, a whole, whole lot of people better and happier from having the luck to encounter her in our shared short times together in life.
