I don’t know what to say. I am beyond disgusted but not at all surprised. My daughter will have fewer rights than I did — or even her grandmother did — and that is so incredibly fucked up.

Pregnancy complications and maternal mortality are both shockingly high in the United States. What overturning Roe will do is impose a death sentence on the mother and the embryo–not that the rightwing will care because it was never about the PWESHUS BAYBEEEEZE, it’s just a way to force women into non-human, non-competitive breeding units. If one breaks down, just get another one. Or, as Martin Luther, the founder of Protestanism famously said, If they (women) become tired or even die, that does not matter. Let them die in childbirth. That is what they are there for.

Follow-up: I spent an unpleasant time last night arguing with a former coworker (who up to this point has been blandly pleasant) who is simply outraged beyond coherence at the idea that he–A WHITE MAN–is not welcome to control the bodily autonomy of women he’s never even met. It was shocking to me how someone could Jeckyll-Hyde like this.
He had all the rightwing and incel talking points memorized. Now I’m left wondering how I missed all these years that this guy really and truly doesn’t consider women as human beings like he is.
The twisted humor in all of this is that he’d happily deny a woman with an ectopic pregnancy the lifesaving surgery to remove the burst Fallopian tube, but he’s mortally aggrieved and infuriated at Jen Psaki, who responded to a male reporter badgering her about abortion that as a man, he will never experience what it’s like to be pregnant and the risks it ensues. My former-friend kept bellowing, “SHE SAYS XYs DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE!” (…what a woman may do with her own body, he left unsaid).
