Although not officially part of The Group of Seven, Carr’s work is a well-considered part of their movement, and is a part of the permanent collection at the McMichael Art gallery (The official gallery of the group of seven, in Kleinberg, Ontario.     Lawren Harris told Carr “You are one of us”. These days, she and Tom Thomson are better known than some of the Seven.

    The first time I went to the McMichael gallery was on a school trip soon after my family moved to Canada. A.Y. Jackson was there, very old but still working, I think. I got his autograph. Lost it, of course.
