Fabulous Fumaria Flowers

Thanks to Nightjar and her magic with a camera we have beautiful flowers to start the week.

I wanted to share these photos I took on my first walk of 2020. This is Fumaria officinalis, known as common fumitory or earth smoke, and one of the first winter wildflowers to bloom here in Portugal and give the fields some colour. They look even prettier covered in morning dew.

    Thank you, Ice Swimmer.

My plan is to turn this into a weekly feature, send photos of a different flower every week. But I can never predict when the next wave of work will come, so we’ll see how that plan goes. :)

What a glorious colour they are, we don’t usually have any flowers this early except on bushes, so forsythia, bodnantense and the like, the we get whites followed by then mostly yellow with a few blues and purples.

A weekly feature would be lovely, but an intermittent feature would be better than none :-)
