Well, ouch.

Before you send out parties in search for your missing host: I’m in hospital with a nice big spinal disc herniation. Sorry for the not working link, you can google it yourselves.

They’re trying to get the pain under control with medication, cortisol injections in the spine and physiotherapy. If that doesn’t work they’ll transfer me to the university hospital. I’m sick and tired of this shit, and patience has never been my strong suit.

My BFF has brought me a plush llama. I miss y’all.

I have two bulging disks and know someone who just went through that surgery. And she is younger than I am.

A broken arm, you get a sling. A broken leg, you get crutches. But spinal problems are completely debilitating. It makes you wish you could sit in a swimming pool for a week.

Well, I just made it to the toilet and back without wishing I’d never been born, so I’ll call that “improvement”. Seems like the spinal injection is working.

I imagine “ouch” is the PG version of how you feel.
I hope they can get your symptoms under control quickly -- back pain ain’t for sissies.
(Do they have a heated therapy pool at the hospital? If so, I hope they offer you a few sessions. The warm water and weightlessness are divine.)

Glad they can pinpoint the problem. Having hip pain, cause could be spinal stenosis or degenerated discs affecting nerves, or osteoarthritis of the other hip causing change in gait stressing the muscles or SI joint.

Dunno about heated pools, but this morning the nice physiotherapist hung me up by my feet with a nice warm bag under my back. This year’s Halloween theme clearly is “bat”.

Sorry to hear it, Giliell. Been there. I had a herniated disc (L4-L5) and ultimately had surgery back in 2000. Took awhile after the operation — was back on my feet quickly, but had lingering pain that took almost two years to fully subside. I’m doing pretty well now. I still take extra care with bending and lifting. I had a bit of a relapse back in the spring that seems to have resolved, but it was another reminder that humans just aren’t cut out for this bipedalism thing.

If you get to the point of having surgery, I would suggest not being too anxious to leave the hospital afterward. I went home the next day but I think I needed an extra night.

Oh no, I am so sorry you are going through such pain, but glad the injection has helped. Bat exercises do seem seasonally appropriate.

I only have a protruding disc, in my cervical spine, mostly it just causes my left to have tremors, and not even that all of the time, though I do get sudden short bursts of intense head pain occasionally. I hope the treatment they can give you where you are works and you don’t need to be transferred.
