Residence Sunflowers – Part 2 – The Buds

I do like the way sunflowers look even before they fully blossom. There is something soothing about the deep fresh green, fuzziness and the prickly look that speaks to me.

And some of the residents seem to prefer the green buds over the fully open blossoms.

I grew a single sunflower in a pot in my glasshouse balcony. It was somewhat stunted and not very healthy looking, probably suffering from occasional high temperatures and limited root space. There was also a spider mite infestation towards the end of summer. Nevertheless, it produced a head full of ripe seeds. I just harvested the head, not quite knowing what to do with it.

Lovely photos, Charly. Those are brilliant shades of green and I think the curled up edges that unfurl themselves have a beautiful shape.
