    Nice find!

    Also, assuming that that wesp means wasp, I’m finding it very interesting that wesp is almost midway between the English wasp and the Portuguese vesp(a).

    A nice find indeed, also, the wasp seems to work hard.

    It seems that the name vespa/Wespe/wasp/guêpe is widespread in Romance and West-Germanic languages plus Danish and Norwegian. Finns, Swedes, (West) Slavs and Hungarians already have other names for them. In Finnish it’s ampiainen and in Swedish it’s geting. I’m not sure is ampiainen and ampua (to shoot) are related, neither do I know if the word geting is related the Swedish word for goat, get.
