The Art of Book Design: The Parade

Gleeson White, editor. An Illustrated Gift Book for Boys and Girls. Cover and end-papers designed by Paul Woodroffe. London, H. Henry and Co. Limited, 1897.

The interior illustrations were done by a variety of artists and I’ve put a few of them below the fold for anyone who’s interested.

Title page. The Frog Princess. Illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley

The Cat Cinderella, illustrated by L. de Montmorency

Dear Little Bird. Illustrated by Charles Robinson.

A Voyage to Fairyland, illustrated by Alfred Jones

The cover is gorgeous. I like the gold on white look -- it’s reminiscent of Beardsley’s Morte D’Arthur (which I’m saving for now)

    Jazzlet,
The different styles of drawing are really interesting. Most books of this period have a single illustrator.
