Schneckenwetter

Avalus has found a few small creatures who’ve been enjoying the wet weather.

Schneckenwetter: “Snail weather”, well lots of rain. And snails, everywhere.

We’ve had a lot of rain too, you can’t walk up our path without stepping on at least one snail.

I love that term, Schneckenwetter. Though usually I gauge wet weather by the number of earth worms trying to cross varying expanses of concrete.

Snails are interesting looking creatures, not very common here. We mostly have slugs and one saying is “Etana, etana näytä sarves, onko huomenna pouta?” (“Slug, slug show me your horns, is it dry weather tomorrow?” etana is slug, sarvi is horn, huomenna is tomorrow and pouta is dry weather)

Very nice -- the one with the dark stripes on its shell is striking, but I also like the first one with the more subtle patterns on both the shell and its body.

    I love that term, Schneckenwetter.

Though I’m quite close to avalus geographically, it’s not one I’m familiar with

We have both of those kinds of snail here, the stripy one is somewhat smaller and it’s shell is disproportionately stronger.
