Harakka in Autumn: Chapter 6

It’s time to take another walk with Ice Swimmer as he tours us around Harakka.

Chapter 6 – Viola on the Rocks

These pictures were taken on the rocks of Harakka, in various places and various times, both on Saturday and on Sunday. The wild/feral violas could be found all over the rocks wherever there was a large and dry enough crack or other place in which there was some soil.

I love how tenacious these beauties are. Usually a sign of spring, it’s lovely to see them in autumn, as well!

  2. Ice Swimmer says

I’m not sure if these are wild Viola tricolor or if they are escapees from somebody’s flower bed. They were smaller than cultivated violas.

  3. Nightjar says

    Lovely!

Viola tricolor and its garden varieties are known here as “perfect-love” (amor-perfeito).

  4. Ice Swimmer says

Viola tricolor is in Finnish keto-orvokki. Keto is a dry meadow and orvokki the word used for pansies and violas and also a female given name.
