Jack’s Walk

It’s been raining here most of the day and with the temp hovering between -1º C and +1º C all that rain has been freezing and accumulating. Just stepping out of the house is dangerous. I slipped several times going down my front stairs and once I was at the bottom there was no-where I could go beyond a small patch of grass. Every surface is coated with about 1.5 cm of ice. Even poor low to the ground and 4-footed Jack fell twice going out to pee. The schools are closed, city buses have been canceled and I haven’t seen a single car drive past my house all day. The big, heavy trees are groaning and cracking under the weight and my birch tree has already lost a sizable limb. The forecast says it should all melt soon though, with temps expected to warm up overnight and reach a high of +12º C tomorrow. I hope they’re right.

You and Jack stay safe. Hopefully the ice will melt quickly. We’re also going to get freezing rain tonight where I live. I hope that it’s not too much ice. I have a physical scheduled for late tomorrow morning and hopefully I’ll be able to make it, but of course I can’t risk my life!

Stay safe voyager and Jack. I hope no more of your trees suffer damage.

Springa I hope it’s possible for you to get to your physical safely.

Weird. I often hear of this heavy freezing rain happening in eastern North America, not so much here in Europe. We just often get icy walkways from repeated snowing, thawing, drizzling, trampling and freezing.

We’ve been promised freezing rain, too, but so far, no (d)ice. Better that way.
Stay safe, voyager and Jack, and thank you for sharing such a beautiful, delicate photo! It’s dangerous weather, but it is also amazingly beautiful.

It happens here, but I think something about the weather systems makes it a far rarer phenomenon.

We had freezing rain just today afternoon. Oh the joy, scraping 1 mm of solid ice off of my car in the evening, tired after work and hungry.
